Monkeys on the roof. Sunday, August 19, 2012. In the meantime. the grasses are drying, and waterholes recede revealing cracked crevices of thick glutinous mud. As the bones of the earth are laid bare by winds, so the bones of the animals start to show beneath dusty hides. Admittedly the wild dogs have chased all the animals off the floodplains, and the cold biting wind has kept the elephants away, so the trees have a chance to stand in the center stage. Bright sunlight and cold blue shadows dazzle at midday and play on the bark of sculpted leadwood trees, and broad acacias. The last baobab in this area was finally eaten by elephants last year. Only there was one ineey meeny mini bikini moment where it could all have gone a bit well .I believe the expression is ‘tits up’. The first time I witnesssed a kite foil. Taken as he crossed the finish line first in the first race of the day. The sound the foil makes at certain speeds at the mast as it slices through the water is a high wine as well as the constant knifelike "shhhhhhhhhhhhh" sound.
