Incidentally, I've also looked into the NINES. Primary works, which is a rich collection, but one that is limited to the ProQuest fiction collections which are also in the Monk datastore. The direct Google interface for Gutenberg is here. Near the bottom of the page. What's nice about Google is that it can get around...
