Lauren's first year at Christel House started in January 2013. After two weeks, Lauren was already smiling from ear to ear. "I found the change from my old school to my new one quite intimidating at first. I was experiencing a mixture of emotions - I felt blessed to have been given such an opportunity, but I was also very nervous about the new experience," said Lauren. How can our school get involved in Growsmart? Participating schools from Metro South, Metro North, Metro East and Metro Central are selected by the Western Cape Education Department. How many learners are there in a team? Each school is represented by one team of three learners. The team members are selected from the pool of learners in Grades 4, 5 and 6. 1ST PLACE: PRIMROSE PARK PRIMARY. The winning school for 2014 was Primrose Park Primary in Athlone. This was the very first time they participated in Growsmart! The school received R250 000 to improve their school facilities. The three learners (Noni Adams, Zaheerah Solomons and Faatimah Isaacs) received R20 000 each towards their future education. The team's mentor, Karen Joshua, received a R10 000 gift voucher. 2ND PLACE: VANGUARD PRIMARY. 3RD PLACE: PALM PARK PRIMARY. TO VIEW PHOTOS OF 2014 FINAL.

187 stories books were submitted by the Growmart learners for the Story Writing Competition. The top 20 stories were published in a beautiful book entitled "Children Writing to Grow Smart 2015 selection.". 1ST PLACE: "VIDEO REALITY" BY VENITE CLAYTON. The winning story was written and illustrated by Venite Clayton from West End Primary. Venite received R10 000 towards her future education. Her mentor, Mrs Stander, received a R2 500 gift voucher. 2ND PLACE: "WILD LIFE TEARS" BY LISAKHANYA SAKI.

Lutho Ngweventsha was one of the Growsmart team members from Beacon View Primary School in Mitchell's Plain. Their team achieved fourth place in the 2013 Growsmart literacy competition and each of the team members were given the opportunity to apply for scholarships. The scholarship, which was awarded by Saili, will pay for Lutho's fees for his entire high school education as well as providing him with his uniform and stationery. Golden Acre Shopping Centre.

In 2010 Boston Primary became the first school to win the Growsmart competition, and Tiffany Sprout was one of their proud team members. Tiffany was so encouraged and motivated by this achievement that she decided to focus on her future education and, with the help of her parents, Tiffany applied for a scholarship through the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation. A learner's dream becomes reality. Ameerah Elmie was one of the three members of the team representing Beacon View Primary School in Growsmart 2011. Little did she know at the time that her participation in the competition would result in amazing changes to her school career. Although Ameerah misses her friends and teachers at Beacon View Primary, she realises that she has been given a rare opportunity and a wonderful chance to become a role model for her peers and her younger brother, Abduragmann.
