Is like what we thought Chiang Mai would be like — beautiful, lush, and green without a lot of traffic, just touristy enough yet still charming. The riverside is just gorgeous! Also, it always seems to smell of flowers. Someone told us it's what Chiang Mai used to be like 30 years ago, which is a little sad. Luang Prabang is slightly more expensive. But still reasonable. Definitely worth the trip! 3-day by slow boat. Was the option we took.

As a lone female traveller, I felt pretty safe in Phuket going around by myself aside from some men trying to start "friendly" conversations. It's true that Phuket is quite a bit more expensive. My dad and I destroyed cabinets with mallets and sledgehammers. There were these huge 7 ½ foot cabinets and my dad would pull them straight to the ground and we would break them apart with sledgehammers and mallets.
