Get grubby with Grundy. Lots of gardening tips and ideas. Friday, 20 April 2007. Going to look at the delicate art of transplanting shrubs, trees and perennials today. No matter how careful you are when digging something out of the ground, some root will always be damaged. To compensate for this damage to the roots we have to damage the top growth to. Sounds a bit harsh but think about it, if its a big bushy plant covered in leaf what are those leaves doing? Sunday, 15 April 2007. Most of my group three ...

Get grubby with Grundy. Lots of gardening tips and ideas. Friday, 11 May 2007. Do you have a pond? If not why not? I can spend hours sitting on the little bridge across my pond watching the newts surface and court and the frogs basking on the sides. It isn't a big pond as you can see from the pictures and the bridge isnt exactly Monet but it divides the garden nicely so that the only way from one end to the other is to cross the bridge. This is the hole. Yeah ideally, but lets be realistic. Forget fish, ...

Get grubby with Grundy. Lots of gardening tips and ideas. Tuesday, 13 March 2007. Hello all today we're going to look at the dos and donts of pruning. When, where, how, why and why the hell not! Pruning causes stress to a plant and most plants react in the same way to most forms of stress. Other forms of stress are drought, water logging, wind damage, pest infestation etc. How do plants react to stress? When to prune. When does the shrub in question flower? OK so what to remove first? Once a year, someti...

Get grubby with Grundy. Lots of gardening tips and ideas. Wednesday, 4 June 2008. Long time since I last blogged but that is due to being very busy which isn't such a bad thing. These three whoppers were the first out the bin. I take a european size ten boot, so the biggest one is about 15 inches long. Most big veg aren't as tasty as their smaller counterparts but the taste wasn't too bad at all. It was a bit of a job getting them in the oven though. I found the end result quite satisfying.

Get grubby with Grundy. Lots of gardening tips and ideas. Saturday, 24 March 2007. Late January early February is the time to wage war on our slimy pests as this is when they become active on mild nights and look for a mate. Get them before they breed, is my philosophy. I feel the same about paedophiles, rapists and drug dealers but thats a topic for my other blog. ( www.myspace.com/bwananyoka. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Get grubby with Grundy. Lots of gardening tips and ideas. Tuesday, 24 April 2007. Grass cutting is an utter bore, which is why the first thing I did with my new garden was spray off the turf with Napalm. The average UK citizen who owns a lawn has an unhealthy obssession with striped and scalped sward. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Welcome, Bien venido, Ongi Etorri, Karibu sana,. Get grubby with Grundy. Lots of gardening tips and ideas. Friday, 2 March 2007. I worked at a specialist clematis grower for a few years and would be dismayed at the lack of good specimen plants around the nursery trained correctly to show people how to get the best from their plants. The advice from the staff was good but they couldn't back it up with an example, and you know what they say about a picture? Here have a look at a one year old Montana alba doing the old zig zag thing. Well I always wait ti...
