History of the Adobe. 6 pm to 9:30. Please join the Friends of the Joaquin Moraga Adobe for our next monthly meeting. All are welcome. Our meetings are usually the 3rd Monday of the month except for holidays. Monday, June 20, 2016. 7:30 to 9 PM. Gallery Room at the Orinda Library. History of the Adobe. History of the Joaquin Moraga Adobe. Moraga Adobe c.1935. Photo Courtesy Orinda Historical Society. Don Joaquin Moraga was the grandson of Jose Joaquin Moraga (b. 1745) an early Spanish explorer in California who founded the city of San Jose. In 1835, Don Joaquin Moraga and his cousin, Don Juan Bernal, received a land grant from the Mexican government including portions of Orinda, Moraga, Lafayette, and Canyon. The adobe and the additions were renovated again in the 1960's.
