About the Authority

The Mokelumne River Water and Power Authority (Authority) was established in 1990 to enhance the reliability of water resources and provide power generation capacity for the region. Formed as a joint power authority, member agencies provide input to and advise on the Authority’s policies and practices through participation at regular meetings of the Mokelumne River Water and Power Authority. The Authority is working to complete the phased planning process for the MORE WATER Project.

Why MORE is Needed. In addition to the basin's troubling health, the region's water sources is also constrained by development of the region's sources for uses outside of the region. The MORE WATER Project was developed to help remedy these issues and, therefore, is vital to sustain future social, economic and social viability. Up to 157,000 acre-feet per year of new water supply. Up to 8-10 megawatts per year of new hydropower supply. Decrease in groundwater overdraft. Less saline intrusion into basin.

Why MORE is Needed. Strategies of the MORE Water Project that are currently under consideration could provide the following potential benefits:. Up to 65,000 acre-feet per year of new water supply. Up to 25 megawatts per year of new hydropower supply. Decrease in groundwater overdraft. Less saline intrusion into basin. Increase in water supply reliability for San Joaquin County and the Bay-Delta Region.
