K is for counter. Holly Walsh vs The Smoking Ban. Ah, thats right, I've been emailing myself links like mad. Don't you take the blame. The better angels of our nature. When a swindler swindles the swindled, who should we blame? I have no need for that hypothesis. What exactly happens when an element (or molecule) reflects a photon? How does that work? And how is it that we can make a surface smooth enough to reflect light in a nice clear way? So if Lisi is right. Ie masses, constants, etc.). After all th...

K is for counter. Is it possible for us to overcome the basic struggle and competition to survive? We ought to have eliminated starvation and health concerns at this point, though we haven't. Is there anything a baby can do that we can't build a robot that could do it also? That is, babies move, (mostly without coordination), they feed (take in energy), they excrete waste, they monitor a variety of sensory inputs, they record vast amounts of data from said sensory inputs. anything else? So the program wi...

You have corrupted your purpose. and so yourself. And you did hide away what should always have been mine.". I don't like how easily I find significance in simple words phrases and sentences. It makes me feel cheap. Because we each have different interpretations of what is best, what is achievable, what is realistic. No, truth ...

K is for counter. It wasn't a decision, it was simply the truth, so far as I could discern it. And it was such a coherent and complete explanation, that the alternatives provided no contest. Like all shaman, they returned to the sky.". Or must I admit defeat, and accept that verifying one's sanity will always demand external input, despite such reliance on others appearing to be the very definition of vulnerability? And all this without any consideration of the destruction incurred in the other direction.

K is for counter. She's a Beautiful Mystery. So everyone agrees that selective breeding works, right? So isn't it easy to realize that the selection process doesn't require a conscious selector (e.g., farmer)? Farmers carry out an artificial selection. When choosing mates, individuals are performing sexual selection. And when the cold cruel world's limited resources put a strain on the number of creatures that can survive in a given environment, it is nature. Can you hear me hear you now? Ugh, puke guns.

Sunday, 6 September 2009. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Got pushed further back in my cerebrum, being overtaken by newer, shinier exciting things. So, imagine my delight when tearing open my birthday presents a few weeks ago I was confronted by a zombified Georgian Lady. Lets face it, any book that starts with the immortal line ' It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains. Let me tell you, this book does not disappoint! Repeated Darcy co...

Optimus Waffle: The Happyness Scale
http://optimuswaffle.blogspot.com/2010/03/happyness-scale.html
Tuesday, 2 March 2010. Haven't posted anything in a while, so thought it was about time I pulled on my blogging mittens and got typing again. As an easy intro I thought I'd post the little figure below, which kinda developed out of a discussion we were having the other day when I was accused of being a tea-centric being. Have to admit, they're probably correct. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A semi-regular blog of general comments on science, computers, and all things geeky. View my complete profile.

Friday, 26 June 2009. A Walk Around Britain. I actually stumbled across these guys a while ago, and have been meaning to write some incomprehensible mumblings about them for ages. However, what with the thesis reaching its inevitable conclusion I haven't been doing a great deal of anything except typing furiously into a LaTeX document! Now that the beast is finally finished I have time to waste, so there should be many more comments appearing on this wee collection of random drivel in the near future.
