Moroccan Meanderings: May 2009

http://moroccanmeanderings.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

These are my meanderings, both mental and physical, through the challenge that is Morocco. Friday, 22 May 2009. As I brought my film scanner back with me from Australia, I have been busy scanning some of the many slides I have with me. (There are lots more stored in Australia though! As a result I have discovered a few forgotten Morocco photos that I took during my time living there. Here is a sample:. The dunes of Erg Chigaga. Cafe Bouganinvillea in Marrakesh. Friday, 8 May 2009. It's a small world.

Moroccan Meanderings: June 2008

http://moroccanmeanderings.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

These are my meanderings, both mental and physical, through the challenge that is Morocco. Monday, 30 June 2008. So after I visit Australia for one month's holiday, I am off to Dhaka, Bangladesh to work. Am I sad about leaving Morocco? Sunday, 29 June 2008. More attempted abstract cacti photos! Labels: cacti photographs gardens majorelle marrakesh morocco. Saturday, 28 June 2008. Yves Saint Laurent memorial, Marrakesh. While in Marrakesh I took my friend to see the spectacular Majorelle Gardens. Labels: ...

Moroccan Meanderings: July 2008

http://moroccanmeanderings.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

These are my meanderings, both mental and physical, through the challenge that is Morocco. Friday, 25 July 2008. Having been back in Australia for the last few weeks, after not having been here for 18 months, I have spent a lot of time talking about my life in Morocco, the attractions of Morocco and showing photos of Morocco. I made a photobook through Snapfish. In which I put my best photographs and that has been a real hit. Of course it also makes me sad about leaving Morocco but I hope to be back!

These are my meanderings, both mental and physical, through the challenge that is Morocco. Saturday, 29 January 2011. Eating and sleeping in Taroudant. Plus any profit goes to support the adjoining orphanage. Here are some photos:. The courtyard and verandah. Taroudant with the snow-capped Atlas Mountains in the background. Speculating about fiction: October 2010

http://tracey-rolfe.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

A blog about writing, editing and teaching - and life in general. Con report day 4: part 2. Editing the novel" with Simon Spanton, Zoe Walton, Jean Johnson and Ginjer Buchanan. Spanton said he had one book he was editing that was too long and so he took two lines off every page and made further suggestions for cutting and returned it to the author, and the second draft came back 10,000 words longer than the first. [I'm glad I'm not the only writer who is capable of that! Spanton talked about using big ma...

Speculating about fiction: March 2010

http://tracey-rolfe.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

A blog about writing, editing and teaching - and life in general. Student first chapters and outlines - a great way to get a feel for what my students are going to be working on this year, though sometimes one will change horses midway through, but that's okay. Over the last few weeks, my husband and I have been watching a series of motivational talks on TED.com. We've watched all kinds of things, including a fascinating talk on statistics. Yeah, I know. Go figure. Online teaching (and face-to-face).

Speculating about fiction: May 2011

http://tracey-rolfe.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

A blog about writing, editing and teaching - and life in general. What makes a great poem? Without subscribing to any kind of cultural cringe, I have to admit to sometimes looking at the American poetry publishing scene with envy - poets like Ted Kooser and Billy Collins, Mary Oliver and Maya Angelou, who write amazing poetry that's brilliantly conceived and executed and yet easily accessible to most readers. Where are Australia's great poets writing in this vein? And informative - packed with great advi...

Speculating about fiction: Con report: day 4: part 1

http://tracey-rolfe.blogspot.com/2010/09/con-report-day-4-part-1.html

A blog about writing, editing and teaching - and life in general. Con report: day 4: part 1. I took in five panels on my final day of the con, so here's the rundown. The series question: big books chopped up or small books glued together" with Ian Irvine, David Cornish, Kate Forsyth, Lara Morgan and Mif Farquharson (although, looking at my notes, I haven't written down anything she said so it may be she was very quiet, or perhaps she wasn't there. I can't remember now.). Irvine said his first book went t...

Speculating about fiction: Con report: day 1

http://tracey-rolfe.blogspot.com/2010/09/con-report-day-1.html

A blog about writing, editing and teaching - and life in general. Con report: day 1. The first session I attended was in the academic stream - a talk by Gillian Polack on Writers and their history: how writers use and view the historical aspects of their settings. Polack is a historian, and I've attended her sessions at other cons, and they're always well informed and interesting, so I knew I had to see this one. The second session I went to was called "Steal the past, build the future: new histories for...

A Bangladesh Adventure: April 2011

http://abangladeshadventure.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

A new job, a new country and new experiences. Join me on my Bangladesh adventure! Tuesday, 26 April 2011. Been a bit slack lately but have just come back from 8 days in Bhutan and 6 days in India. Bhutan - what can I say, all of us thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to return. Fresh air, mountains, forests, friendly people, stunning architecture and great food. What more could a person ask for. Here are a few of my favourite photos - others to follow later. Monk at Punakha Dzong. Paro valley and dzong.

A Bangladesh Adventure: December 2009

http://abangladeshadventure.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

A new job, a new country and new experiences. Join me on my Bangladesh adventure! Thursday, 3 December 2009. Escaping the bloodbath - R and R in KL. In between the shopping I did manage to fit in a bit of sightseeing but ran out of energy fairly quickly. When walking got too much, the monorail and light rail train were a cheap and good alternative. Not far from where I stayed was Petronas Towers, below which was a good shopping centre. The towers were best seen just after sunset. Chan See Shu Yun Temple.

A Bangladesh Adventure: February 2010

http://abangladeshadventure.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

A new job, a new country and new experiences. Join me on my Bangladesh adventure! Friday, 26 February 2010. Back to Dhamrai and Savar. At the brass shop. The wax mould of the cast. Breaking open the clay mould to reveal the brass statue. Watching the women working on the rice. Boy watering the street. Decoration of a rickshaw seat. Some of the very friendly visitors. One of the best kept gardens in Bangladesh is around the Martyr's Memorial. Some pompom ducks for sale outside the Martyr's Memorial. The o...

http://abangladeshadventure.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

A new job, a new country and new experiences. Join me on my Bangladesh adventure! Thursday, 16 June 2011. Some photographic highlights from my time in Bangladesh. Golfing at the Army course. Today is my last Dhaka in Bangladesh as I fly out to Australia tonight before beginning a new job in Kathmandu. So here's a summary of my time here - the good and the bad . . . . . Made some great friends and met some lovely people. The kids at school were generally nice. Having the Australian Club to escape to.

Moroccan Meanderings

These are my meanderings, both mental and physical, through the challenge that is Morocco. Monday, 21 February 2011. A great video of Marrakesh. Saturday, 5 February 2011. Agadir - the kasbah. From Agadir's crumbling kasbah, there are excellent views across the harbour, beach and town especially if the weather is clear. Agadir - fish market. Not only is the fish market in Agadir a great place to buy fish, it is also a great place to eat them at the semi-outdoor stalls where the fish is freshly barbequed.
