Sunday, August 31, 2014. Usakos to Hentiesbaai - Day 3. Dear followers, I hope you are aware that Internet access is not always available, hence the gaps in the dates. The day is completed thanks to Curt. The vastness of the desert. Curt: Someone once told me I was a Kalahari kid -miles and miles of bugger all! I think that if I was on that bike I'd slit my wrists. Wilhelmstal to Usakos (93km). By mid morning I shed the additional clothes I have on. The road up to Karibib is in good condition with a ...

Saturday, November 13, 2010. Posada along the M5 to Los Vilos (77.9km). So tasty. This is topped up with coffee. We sit for a while before we retire to our little suzie and watch some of the video footage Curt has shot and have a good old laugh. The wind continues to howl and at times pounds the car continuing through the entire night. As I’m struggling uphill I hear a car coming from behind and just as it passes a window is rolled down and the person calls out "hello Eugene, how are you doing? Typical d...

We departed San Pedro de Atacama for Antofagasta. We had 4 hours of riding time ahead. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Papudo to Valparaiso (90km). Chañaral to Caldera (89...

Monday, November 8, 2010. Marker 1122Km on the M5 to Chañaral (142km). After breakfast the first of the hills appears and this continues for the next couple of kilometers. Once over the top one can see the landscape that lies ahead. It turns out to be a very long day in the saddle with more hills in sight and too much to mention. The dreaded wind also playing its part to make the journey just a little bit tougher. Luckily for us, we are closer than we think. Yippee! November 9, 2010 at 11:25 AM. Peñablan...

Cycling the Atacama: Typical day on our Chilean tour
http://chilecycle.blogspot.com/2010/11/typical-day-on-our-chilean-tour.html
Wednesday, November 3, 2010. Typical day on our Chilean tour. Ablutions - the finer details I will leave to your imagination, but I have left a geoglyph or two of my own. Washing with limited water in a cup is not unusual and we brought along wipes rolled up in tablet form to which you add a little water and eureka! November 3, 2010 at 4:09 PM. November 3, 2010 at 11:47 PM. Glad that the stove was of some use. Trust that you did not end up full of black soot! November 4, 2010 at 11:20 AM. National Geogra...

Sunday, November 14, 2010. Papudo to Valparaiso (90km). Curt: It is our final day on the road! I had anticipated a pleasant coastal ride and a shorter distance. Next town along the coast is Zapellar which is very trendy and a playground for the rich, with private roads and beaches - wow! We decide to spend another night and that speaks for itself. November 15, 2010 at 4:47 AM. Enjoy the rest of your stay and have a good trip home. See you soon. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Vallenar and Pisco valley.

http://chilecycle.blogspot.com/2010/11/calder-to-past-copiapo-truck-stop-107km.html
Monday, November 8, 2010. Calder to past Copiapo - a truck stop (107km). It is along this stretch of road that I meet Israel and Tino who are from Mexico. They work in the field of mining. At first I’m a bit surprised as they stop their car along the side of the road to take a picture of me on my bicycle. I stop to chat with them: " What are you doing here? Israel enquires. " Where do you come from? What country are you from? November 9, 2010 at 11:44 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Celebration i...
