Morton Bagot Birder

My 2014 Patch List. Morton Bagot Life List. Flowers of Morton Bagot. My 2015 patch list. Sunday, 16 August 2015. A bright sunny morning with virtually no wind. Once Dave arrived we chose the village route, hearing a couple of fly-over Siskins and staring at a recently deceased Badger before heading across the fields away from Bannams Wood. We reached the "bridle path" edge of the pool field and there saw a male Redstart with four Chiffchaffs, two Blackcaps, and two Whitethroats. Friday, 14 August 2015.

Morton Bagot Birder: Friday August 14

http://www.mortonbagotbirder.blogspot.com/2015/08/friday-august-14.html

Morton Bagot Life List. Flowers of Morton Bagot. My 2016 Year List. Where is Morton Bagot? Friday, 14 August 2015. After a night of heavy rain showers the morning dawned grey with a steady drizzle and a very light north-easterly. Ideal conditions for birding at Midland reservoirs in autumn, but less appealing at Morton Bagot. Nevertheless I was secretly optimistic. On reaching the chat field for the second time, a scan revealed a single distant Whinchat. The first passage migrant of the day. Out4aduck - ...

Morton Bagot Life List. Flowers of Morton Bagot. My 2016 Year List. Where is Morton Bagot? Sunday, 2 August 2015. August at last. Although birds have been trickling back south for a month, the deluge starts this month. Not today though. Dave and I walked around scrutinising every bird in every bush (or so it felt) to come up with 16 Whitethroats, five Lesser Whitethroats, a Sedge Warbler, two Blackcaps, and a Reed Warbler, all probably Morton Bagot locals. The day's highlight was a fish! Out4aduck - A re...

Morton Bagot Birder: Saturday August 8

Morton Bagot Life List. Flowers of Morton Bagot. My 2016 Year List. Where is Morton Bagot? Sunday, 9 August 2015. A largely sunny morning with a very light southerly breeze. So naturally I then spent almost the whole of this morning staring into trees watching passerines. No wonder I'm off the pace. Taking the route along the road I quickly discovered the first of two Spotted Flycatchers. It was quite flighty and I just managed one record shot. I finally reached the pool, now just a puddle, and also the ...

Morton Bagot Birder: Tuesday August 11

http://www.mortonbagotbirder.blogspot.com/2015/08/tuesday-august-11.html

Morton Bagot Life List. Flowers of Morton Bagot. My 2016 Year List. Where is Morton Bagot? Tuesday, 11 August 2015. A sunny day with a very light westerly breeze. This was a pretty typical early autumn evening visit. Several warblers hid amongst Reed Buntings and Goldfinches in the hedgerow bordering the pool. A red-tailed passerine, presumably a Redstart, flushed ahead of me and then disappeared. The pool I referred to earlier is now definitely just a glorified puddle as this image testifies.

Winyates Beasts: Sunday January 8

http://winyatesbeasts.blogspot.com/2017/01/sunday-january-8.html

Map of area covered. Sunday, 8 January 2017. Despite not birding here today, I managed to hear a Pied Wagtail. Through the fog as I returned from the paper shop. Also, lunchtime was enlivened by the sight of two Great Tits bathing in the recently relocated bird bath. I have put it further away from the kitchen window, which obviously makes the bathers feel safer. The disadvantage for me is that it is now rather hard to see through the masking branches of the shrubbery. Great Tit having a bath.

Winyates Beasts: November 2016

http://winyatesbeasts.blogspot.com/2016_11_01_archive.html

Map of area covered. Saturday, 19 November 2016. On the drive back from shopping we spotted a Little Egret flying across the road and down the Arrow just this side of Studley. We last saw it circling back over the Washford Mill pub. Thursday, 17 November 2016. Although I have not really seen a lot around the garden and its immediate environs since my last posting, I find I do have things to talk about. Sadly there was a flaw in our thinking. But fingers crossed eh. Changing the subject, I feel I need an ...

Winyates Beasts: Friday January 13

http://winyatesbeasts.blogspot.com/2017/01/friday-january-13.html

Map of area covered. Friday, 13 January 2017. We woke up to snow, but not much. Cold snaps are not what they once were. The Blackbirds in the garden seemed grateful for the extra apples I chucked out. A cold northerly wind after the snow turned to sleet and then stopped altogether. A couple of short walks produced the only year tick in the form of a Sparrowhawk. Most of the day was spent indoors, so the garden and its surrounds had to be relied upon to keep me interested. The Heirs of Gilbert.
