making groovy things: January 2015

Sunday, January 18, 2015. Ugly doll for Xmas. Finished doll with the pattern. Before Christmas I hand-sewed an Ugly Doll for my nephew, who was about 8 months old. The felt is pretty cheap to buy at Spotlight - something like $7 per m. I think I just got some half-metres, and also some small packets of black and white that have adhesive backing for the eyes. Cut out with the bits placed on - sewed them first, then turned him inside out to sew up the outside. Stuffing was through the head. We were lucky e...

making groovy things: March 2012
http://makinggroovythings.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 06, 2012. Hope you're feeling better soon. A simple card made with collage, buttons. And beads and gouache. For a friend's sick sister. Used a liquid rather than stick glue - the very watery ripple effect in the glued on paper (unintentional! Is the sad result, but at least it matches the watery ripple effect in the paint (intentional). Stick glue I love you. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Everything old is new again. making groovy things: April 2014
http://makinggroovythings.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 27, 2014. Made this omlette for dinner last Sunday and recommend the recipe. I think it would have fed 6 as a main (served with salads, pickles, flat bread) or 8 if served with a few other things (like falaffel maybe, or some more substantial salads). It had a nice creamy texture and great subtle spice flavour. It also worked really well as leftovers the next day for lunch. Recipe here. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). making groovy things: December 2013
http://makinggroovythings.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 09, 2013. This year, I've been sewing a bit more again. It started with a colleague lending me this book:. I chose a few patterns, bought fabric, then took a while to get around to making something, but I did in the end! More on that in another post. Then I found this book - the equivalent pattern book for girls:. It has stuff that is appropriate for toddlers, little girls and 10-year-olds, so I thought it might be good value. First pattern to try: this A-line pinafore. Links to this post.

making groovy things: Pottery therapy
http://makinggroovythings.blogspot.com/2015/05/pottery-therapy.html
Sunday, May 17, 2015. Hi craft world. I started a 10-week pottery class after a break up. Yes, it's a bit of a cliche, but one I would recommend to anyone. A full 3 -hour stretch once a week to just be absorbed in something to do with your hands, and enough to concentrate on without any real stress attached. All for $20 a class, plus clay. All the big questions. There's wheels too, but I only had one go on them and have gone back to hand building. Wheels seemed to require more practice with zero out ...
