Decorative anodising is the controlled growth of a crystalline layer of aluminium oxide. This layer is porous and typically grows out of the original metal by approx 1/3 of its thickness and grows into the metal by approx. 2/3 compared to the original aluminium surface. Hot Chemical Blacking/Black Oxide Coating. The most common materials we Black Oxide coat onto are Carbon Steels, Unalloyed and Alloy Steels, unfortunately we are unable to coat onto Stainless Steels. Where required we can de-embrittle before applying the Black Oxide Coating, this is usually required for socket head cap screws, self tapping screw, spring washers or other hardened parts that require the previous coating stripping off in acid. Zinc plating is the process of electrodepositing Zinc onto Mild Steel or Iron parts. The main benefits of Zinc Plating are that it offers excellent corrosion resistance as it is a sacrificial coating in that the zinc coating slowly corrodes over time protecting the steel/iron part underneath.
