Tuesday, 26 February 2013. ABC Wednesday: Guzzlin Goose. Today's post for ABC Wednesday is G for "Guzzlin Goose". And shows the pub of that name on Bentinck Street. The Guzzlin Goose pub is not, in my opinion, one of Ashton's better-looking buildings, although it looks very smart after its recent re-paint, which has emphasised its simple design typical of a lot of 1960s architecture. The thoughts of an MMU PhD student…. RSS for this section. March 12, 2014. This gallery contains 21 photos. Myself and a friend are just back from visiting Krakow, Southern Poland – my first proper trip to Eastern Europe! Well, I have been to Vilnius (in Lithuania) but by post-Cold War definitions that’s actually Northern Europe and to say otherwise would be lazy journalism. Still, my initial impressions were that there is a similarity […]. March 6, 2013. I finally went along to take a look. I’m no...
Boxes & Bellows: January 2015
http://boxesbellows.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
And perhaps a wee boatee. Saturday, January 31, 2015. Little bit of a breeze. Again. Been blowing a minor hoolie. These last few days. The wind howled all last night, the tiles on the roof rattled, stayed in place and at least I was at home. My work trip to South Uist was off as the ferries were too disrupted. Snow, hail and high winds over The Clisham. Made the journey I undertook before the trip was called off a tad dreary. Sadly the cafe at the Heb Gallery. Of course I took a camera! Links to this post.

Wednesday, 19 June 2013. Today's photo shows Walk Mill Bridge across the Ashton Canal. This bridge looks very modern - in fact it was completed only a few weeks ago, replacing an older bridge that has been there for more than 200 years. When the original bridge was built its purpose was to carry horses and carts across the canal. It was unable to cope with the modern articulated lorries that need access to the factories between the canal and the river. Posts from around the world please follow this link.

Friday, 30 November 2012. The City Daily Photo theme for the beginning of December is "My Street". The photo shows Hamilton Street in Ashton's West End. This is not the street where I live (stalkers, please take note) but I have chosen it for today's theme as it is so typical of the streets in Ashton under Lyne. These days the cotton spinning machines have gone and the mill produces Weetabix rather than cloth. See Google Street View. From around the world. 9 comments so far - add your own comment! This w...

Tuesday, 26 March 2013. ABC Wednesday: Kings Road. Today's post for ABC Wednesday is K for "Kings Road". And the photo shows a section of this thoroughfare just east of the junction with Queens Road at Hurst Cross. Many years ago, before the area became built-up, this was known as Cross Acre Lane. When these houses were built it became Upper King Street. Then Upper and Lower King Street became Kings Road. In the distance, beyond the traffic signals, is the spire of St John's Church. See Google Street View.

Wednesday, 5 June 2013. Today's post for ABC Wednesday is U for "Unicorns". So just where in Ashton might a couple of these mythical creatures be seen? The answer is on this colourful coat of arms below the clock tower of Ashton's Market Hall. I'm afraid I could not find out what this particular coat of arms is and what it is doing there. Nor could I find out why unicorns are featured. If anyone knows, please let me know through the comments. Nicorns" is a contribution to ABC Wednesday. For more " U.
