Walks with Moss: Ultralight Adventure Equipment (ULA) Circuit 2014 Review
http://mosswalks.blogspot.com/2014/02/ultralight-adventure-equipment-ula.html
Hiking Gear and Book Store. Saturday, February 1, 2014. Ultralight Adventure Equipment (ULA) Circuit 2014 Review. Update: After 200 miles I have done a longer term review on this pack and you will find it here: http:/ mosswalks.blogspot.com/2014/07/ultralight-adventure-equipment-ula 27.html. I ordered this backpack on Thursday and to my surprise it arrived in just two days! To get my pack repaired. No thanks. Ain't nobody got time for that! Was probably the way for me to go next. Most of the folks wh...

Hiking Gear and Book Store. Sunday, May 31, 2015. More Off Trail Adventures. This week I decided to do some more off trail hiking. It's the only way to escape the crowds that the internet is bringing. I was rewarded with the discovery of a beautiful grotto. The River during the spring melt. Posted by Mossy Mom. Links to this post. The next post is about: Off Trail. Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Philontis moss with sporophytes. Polytrichum moss with sporophytes. Jacob's shooting star flowers. Posted by Mossy Mom.

Hiking Gear and Book Store. Sunday, March 29, 2015. Yep, back to Fir Lake. This time I brush crashed around the lake and then on the way back I left the trail and crossed a ravine and ended up on the main road. I walked down the main road to get back to my car. Since I missed usual tea spot I had to find a new one on the big road. The big road is nice in this area. Secluded spot on fir creek. Tea time near the main road. Wet English Springer Spaniel. It is growing and getting ready for reproduction.
Walks with Moss: Lake bagging in the swamp
http://mosswalks.blogspot.com/2015/06/lake-bagging-in-swamp.html
Hiking Gear and Book Store. Friday, June 26, 2015. Lake bagging in the swamp. I’m exploring a new to me area that I don’t want to say too much about, because it seems to be free from crowds on the weekdays. I’m sure that some of my dear readers will recognize this area though. Patches stuck in mud. I tried to take a short cut through a swamp but soon thought better of that. The swamp was not very wet but it was filled with vine maple and devil’s club. I found a flag hanging in the tree in the campground.

Feral Hiker: May 2007
http://feralhiker.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 24, 2007. Bear books and attacks. I am heading for Yellowstone National Park to hike and camp this weekend. In preparation for my trip I just finished reading The Mark of the Grizzly. I've read several other books on bears and bear attacks, most notably Steven Herrero's Bear Attacks: Their Causes and Avoidance. Herrero's book offers specific guidance on avoiding and surviving both black and grizzly bear attacks and is considered the best text on the subject. But it was not yet reported there.
Feral Hiker: December 2006

Saturday, December 30, 2006. Black Bears and hiking. In both of the cases above I'm sure the bears were aware of me, I wasn't that far away and had been making noise. I've wondered what I would do if I were to meet a bear on the way out. Of a trail. I guess I would just do my best. Posted by feralhiker @ 8:43 AM. Links to this post. Saturday, December 23, 2006. Saturday, April 28, 2007. Meeting hikers on the trail. However I do try to give accurate information even if I think they should have a decent map; I've been less prepared than I should be before also. Posted by feralhiker @ 7:00 PM. Links to this post. Friday, June 22, 2007. Yellowstone River/Specimen Ridge trail. I've been meaning to finish up my series of hikes in Yellowstone this May/June but work has been very demanding. Here is another entry for a favorite trail. Posted by feralhiker @ 7:26 PM. Links to this post. Friday, June 08, 2007. Fawn Pass Trail, YNP. Another trail report from Yellowstone Park. On May 30 th. Feral Hiker: January 2007
http://feralhiker.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 30, 2007. I need to find better trail food to eat, food I eat during the hike rather than before or after. I'm in a rut now and find I don't eat enough during the hike. Of course like many adult Americans, losing some weight would be good but I would do better by eating adequately during the hike rather than over-eating after the hike because I'm famished. Posted by feralhiker @ 6:14 PM. Links to this post. Wednesday, January 24, 2007. Handicapped parking for backcountry trails. Obviousl...
Feral Hiker: October 2006

Sunday, October 29, 2006. Gear - "you get what you pay for". Another issue are the very light items for ultralight packing such as titanium cookware which are much more expensive than aluminum or stainless steel. Yes, the light items weigh less and are functional but aren't necessarily better or more functional than other materials. And some ultralight gear must be handled carefully or they will break or tear, not items for a beginner. Posted by feralhiker @ 7:02 AM. Links to this post. Links to this post.
Feral Hiker: July 2007
http://feralhiker.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 27, 2007. I still hike in the summer, although I try to find areas less popular and shaded thus cooler. In the Pacific NW, cooler weather is usually easy to find on the west side of the Cascades or at higher elevations. Mosquitoes. And normal clothing is adequate unless bugs are really bad. Saturday, March 31, 2007. Several years ago, about this point in spring, I got hypothermic on a hike. I made it out okay but the incident was definitely a wakeup call, things might easily have turned out badly. I've done a lot of hiking in similar conditions since without any problem. I continue to remember this episode and what I learned. I was very lucky that I learned this lesson without serious consequences. In the last few years, I've read about a number of people who weren't so fortunate. I'm not g...

Wednesday, April 4, 2018. A hike behind a locked gate. I am starting to like all locked gates, they open up hiking opportunities. Sage picked up one tick on the last road hike. I did not pick up any ticks. This is tick season and old roads are prime tick habitat. Perhaps there are less ticks on the West side of the Olympics? Pretty hike on a closed road. Sage loved the snow at first. First glimpse of the lake. First snow at about 1,600 feet. Blood or urine or blood tinged urine? Posted by Mossy Mom.

The Warrior
Thursday, October 9, 2008. Description of The Warrior. THE WARRIOR IS THE LOYAL SOLDIER, THE MAN THAT STANDS UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT. THE WARRIOR IS THE GUY THAT GETS THINGS DONE HIS OWN WAY. THE WARRIOR IS OFTEN A HERO IN THE MAKING ON THE VERGE OF DOING SOMETHING GREAT, A WARRIOR IS MISS UNDERSTOOD AT TIMES BUT HE ALWAYS PULLS THREW. ACHELLES AND HIS VULNERABLE HEEL.
