https://mossycreekfarmblog.wordpress.com/2013/06/02/spring-work-nearing-an-end
Here we go…. June 2, 2013. Spring work nearing an end. The spring season is near its end. This spring season has brought lots of cool weather and rain. Hoop house #1 is filled with lisianthus. They are days away from blooming. Rain or no rain, the plants have to go in. Pretty soon, we’ll have to call it quits. The planting season is about over. The yarrow is coming in quite nicely. The crabgrass is wanting to take over. Lots more weeding and cleaning up to do. This entry was posted in Crop Update. Enter ...

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly – Mossy Creek Farm
https://mossycreekfarmblog.wordpress.com/2013/06/25/the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly
Here we go…. June 25, 2013. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. As I check on the hives each week, it seems I notice something new each time. One of the hives didn’t have much activity going on. That always concerns me, so in I went with a smoker. This first picture is the honey super. The bees were busy filling combs. Not bad, but with a good nectar flow going, I was expecting more. Day 1 – mean angry bees. Day 2 – still attacking…. Day 3 – I started my morning with checking to see if they’ve m...The bees ...

February 2013 – Mossy Creek Farm
https://mossycreekfarmblog.wordpress.com/2013/02
Here we go…. February 28, 2013. Besides a new post? Yep I’m back. It’s been a year since my last post. But here’s a sneak peak of our something new. Penny and baby (Belle). Hubby found her early Monday morning 2/11/13. She’s barely a day old in this pic. We’ve named her Belladonna. Penny, the bossy cow of the herd, has been surprisingly a much nicer cow. Penny isn’t her registered name, but it’s what we call her around the farm. Belle – 1 day old. Des – a very laid back bull. Join 70 other followers.

What vineyard? Where? – Mossy Creek Farm
https://mossycreekfarmblog.wordpress.com/2013/05/27/what-vineyard-where
Here we go…. May 27, 2013. As part of the homesteading quest, we planted a few grapes back in 2010. We planted Concord, Concord Seedless, Reliance, and Marquis Seedless. 8230;and then the start of the flower farm took up all of our time and energy. The best we’ve been able to do with the little vineyard was mow around it. Three years later… one hot mess of weeds and untrained grape vines all over the place. Lots of little grape clusters! Spring work on the farm – Mossy Creek Farm
https://mossycreekfarmblog.wordpress.com/2013/05/16/spring-work-on-the-farm
Here we go…. May 16, 2013. Spring work on the farm. So much rain and cold has kept us from getting out there to get plants in the ground. No spring planting means nothing to sell this summer. It was a make or break decision to get the tiller out and work the beds. Some things just can’t wait. When the soil isn’t dry enough the tiller creates large clods of dirt. It’s a mess to work with. One of many beds. Many beds and many more to go. This entry was posted in Crop Update. Spring flower Season →. Checkin...

March 2013 – Mossy Creek Farm
https://mossycreekfarmblog.wordpress.com/2013/03
Here we go…. March 20, 2013. Belladonna – 1 month later. She’s a little sweetie. She hates being penned up in the loafing shed. We put them in the shed at night to keep them safe from predators. It’s warm, dry, and lots of yummy grass… she just doesn’t get it. Posted in Around the homestead. March 18, 2013. Trying to make something happen. Putting the nucs in hive boxes. Bee nuc 1 of 4. The drought, no nectar flow, heat, I should have continued feeding them. Angry bee trying to sting the camera. I did no...

Beehive Update – 6/10/13 – Mossy Creek Farm
https://mossycreekfarmblog.wordpress.com/2013/06/11/beehive-update-61013
Here we go…. June 11, 2013. Beehive Update – 6/10/13. May 2nd I installed 9 new bee packages. Once a week, I’ve been opening up the hives to see how they are doing, adding sugar syrup and pollen patties. Two of the nine hives lost their queen. By the lack of bees, I’m guessing the queen just “exited left”. I have no plans to get them queen-right. They will simply get absorbed by the remaining hives. This entry was posted in Beekeeping.
