Most days are not like this. Sunday, August 8, 2010. Not that anyone is still checking this anymore, but if you are, I'm going to attempt to keep better track of the recipes we make and like. These two were big hits this week - and both so easy and healthy (relatively speaking). Angrezi Bhutta (Corn and Tomato Curry). Adapted from Raghavan Iyer's 660 Curries (via Serious Eats). Serves 3 to 4. 2 tablespoons canola oil. 1 small onion, finely chopped. 1 hot pepper (jalapeno or serrano), finely chopped.

I'd never had sour cherries before - not very common in the northeast - but sour cherry season is eagerly anticipated by our fellow Ohioans, and now I see why! Joking aside, it's a great accomplishment and perhaps more importantly to her, means that she's done and can go back to focusing on teaching. I tagged along on the weekend trip and we got a nice visit with friends in as well. We even had a pool party! Other items of note in May were the DASH puzzlehunt. The Bay Area gang. And Argo.

In January we had a couple fun snowshoeing trips, some snowy skiing in Colorado, saw the world snow sculpture championships in Breckenridge, and Erin and Jim's winter wedding near Rocky Mountain National Park (technically it was in February, but I'll include them here). In July we had a great Independence Day weekend/week visit from our Bay Area friends, I did the Seattle-to-Portland. 200 mile (2-day) bike ride with a group of 9 of us from Portland and Seattle, and of course we continued on with quite a bit of house and yard work. Summer in Portland is beautiful! Kate works on putting the floating cork tile floor in the kitchen. Ann and Adam excited about their Deschutes tasters.

Made lots of fruit "extracts" from the large quantities of Yakima fruit that Anonymous brought from Yakima. These are basically simple syrups made out of fruit pulp instead of water.
