Coming to Terms...: Proud
http://mlraminiakcomingtoterms.blogspot.com/2015/07/proud.html
Thursday, July 2, 2015. The Fourth of July is creeping up on us again. It’s always an uncomfortable time for me, because I am so allergic to the concepts of patriotism, nationalism, flag-worship and glorification of the military that move to the front and center of our national consciousness on that day. In recent years…oh, since the onset of the Bush Administration, I’d say…I have taken particular exception to crows of “I’m PROUD to be an American! 8221;, and their accompanying. I may be fortunate.

Coming to Terms...: February 2015

Friday, February 27, 2015. On The Passing of a "Friend". One of my personal heroes died this morning,. Yes, he was "only" an actor. And the character he brought to life was fictional. But what a character. Spock was a product of American pop culture of the 1960's, but he endured through nearly five decades of cultural changes as an icon of courage,. Insatiable intellectual curiosity, humor, loyal friendship and peacemaking. Hoped, awaited the human race as we went out among the stars. Now he really is.

Friday, January 23, 2015. Thoughts on American Sniper. Have you seen “American Sniper” yet? Have you read the book? I have done neither…the title/subject matter itself is not simply uninteresting to me, it’s downright repugnant. But even in my relatively small online world, I have been able to pick up on the tug-of-war of opposing opinions surrounding the movie’s popularity. And so of course I feel the need to weigh in. I grew up in the sixties. What was not to hate about that? We believed that the ignom...

Coming to Terms...: November 2014
http://mlraminiakcomingtoterms.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 17, 2014. I think I have always sucked at them. It’s difficult for an introvert who lives 75% of her life inside her head to blast outside her skull enough to really do justice to a connection with another person. Hard…so hard to go from implode to expand. It takes a monumental effort of will. Constant pep-talking and second-guessing and trying to keep yourself going in the face of uncertain results…. So much easier just to not bother. And then there’s this:. And that says nothing of the...

Coming to Terms...: Vive la Difference? Not a Chance...

Tuesday, June 16, 2015. For the last thirty days, the "liberal" side of American media have been preaching the " Caitlyn Jenner. Now, we are all being admonished to vilify Rachel Dolezal. How dare she identify as something other than how she was born, and take steps to live in that reality? What right did she have to actually become a political activist among the people with whom she chose to identify? Seriously.a white woman passing for black? Posted by Lisa :-]. Coming to Terms...: July 2014
http://mlraminiakcomingtoterms.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 30, 2014. I see I’m in danger of letting a month slip by without posting anything to this blog. So I have sat down to record any old crap that comes to mind purely for the purpose of not letting that happen. It’s not that I haven’t had things swirling about in my head that could have been shaped into decent rants or reports. But a few tall hurdles have been erected in the path of my artistic process which I haven’t yet been able to circumvent. First of all, there is the iPad. The noises t...

Sunday, July 19, 2015. On Reaching the End of Another Decade #2. Sunsets are part of the addiction for those of us who love our Oregon coast. Sometimes, like. The sun merely disappears unremarkably into the gray swirl of offshore mist. Other times, when the sinking molten orb strikes the right combination with clouds floating above the western horizon, the results are breathtaking.magical. To which the Universe replied, "What about this magnificent sunset? Isn't that enough for you? Posted by Lisa :-].

Coming to Terms...: New Beginning
http://mlraminiakcomingtoterms.blogspot.com/2015/03/new-beginning.html
Monday, March 9, 2015. The sun is out, the sky is jewel-blue, the air is warm and sweet with the fragrances of spring. Why, then, do I feel like I’m tied to the tracks with a diesel locomotive heading straight for me? Well, for one thing, even the fact that the weather is so uncommonly gorgeous for this time of year is a source of worry. If it’s sunny, dry, and 70 degrees now, in the beginning of March, what will it be in the middle of August? But money issues push my buttons every time. And the answer t...

Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Selfies.Love 'em or Hate 'em. Of all the social ills befalling our society—and they are legion—I’d say the “selfie epidemic” is mostly a non-problem. Like the internet, which has allowed me to indulge my writing compulsion, digital photography has given me the opportunity to cater to my photography bug to an extent I never would have if the medium still consisted of 35mm SLRs, fragile film, fade-prone paper images and brittle negatives. So, through a subsequent string of ever...
