Preparing for my first Urban Hike – Mostly Not New
https://mostlynotnew.wordpress.com/2017/01/03/preparing-for-my-first-urban-hike
Exploring alternatives to constantly buying new crap. Preparing for my first Urban Hike. January 3, 2017. January 3, 2017. Today is the first hike of my new year’s resolution to walk the Austin Public Library circuit. At 105 miles it’s also the longest urban hike that I’ve planned for the year. And with my lazy December, I figured I had better do some kind of prep. Route from Little Walnut Creek branch to Milwood branch. Route from Milwood branch to Spicewood Springs branch. Library card (on my keychain).

Exploring alternatives to constantly buying new crap. A Ten-Mile Stroll to the Library. January 5, 2017. Sunday the library was closed for New Year’s. On Monday again it was closed for New Year’s (observed). But Tuesday the libraries opened at ten o’clock, and I was ready at eight to start my new year’s resolution of hiking the circuit of Austin Public Library branches. My maps and supplies. Were on hand to assist me in this awesome journey. And the weather was absolutely beautiful. It was cool to see mo...

Exploring alternatives to constantly buying new crap. A Walk in the Harvested Woods. October 30, 2016. This week at Talk Green to Me book club, we were discussing Bill Bryon’s A Walk in the Woods. A lovely wide walking trail along North Burnet Road 😛. Much of a challenge. Map of Austin libraries. Well, you can probably see where I’m going with this. For 2017 it would be awesome if I walked to every libary branch! Do you think I can do it? I think I can. The library is closed on January 1 and 2 next ...

Exploring alternatives to constantly buying new crap. Things I bought in February. March 7, 2017. I managed to stay away from the thrift shops all of February, so this shouldn’t be as long a list as last month. Fig tree, Texas Everlasting. Fig tree, already leafing out since I brought it home a few weeks ago. Toward the end of the month, I stopped at the Really, Really Free Market. Again to drop off a few items and scored some great finds. Don’t worry, I did wash them. Lentils and spices from the RRFM.

Step 2: Minimalism – Not a Trashy Girl
https://notatrashygirl.wordpress.com/2016/11/06/step-2-minimalism
Not a Trashy Girl. November 6, 2016. November 6, 2016. SSep one has gone pretty smoothly. it’s my birthday today so a friend and I are going to the mall for the freebies at places like Ulta and such, and I’ll be hanging with friends, but I do not intend to lust after any stuff in store. As for minimalism, I’m planning to box up everything come tomorrow afternoon and unboxing the things I use as I use them and see how much I don’t actually use. this will be really interesting. Step 3: Sans Packaged Food! – Not a Trashy Girl
https://notatrashygirl.wordpress.com/2016/11/14/step-3-sans-packaged-food
Not a Trashy Girl. November 14, 2016. Step 3: Sans Packaged Food! I haven’t quite finished step 2, but step 3 is simply me not buying food in packaging. There’s hardly any bulk options out here, the nearest store with bulk options is about 70 miles away, so it would involve quite a drive. Posted in Step 3. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. September 10, 2016. The other night we bought some green onions for our baked potatoes. We enjoy using green onions fairly frequently for omelettes, in soups, or on potatoes. They’re really not that expensive but did you know it’s totally easy to never have to buy them again? Learning about this has prompted ...

June 5, 2016. Hello everyone we are back and alive! After a month of being in Italy, Switzerland, Paris and Singapore we are back into reality. It was such an experience and everyone was definitely fabulous. We didn’t miss a bus or train or subway thanks to my detail-oriented husband, and we didn’t lose anyone. So as for the slow travel/minimal suitcases I have to say that I am hooked. Taking cabin luggage only meant that:. We did not over pack. I packed:. Three pairs of pants. Two pairs of shoes. Two ot...

August 13, 2016. I find it really interesting how people use the space in their houses, particularly blended families like us. We have seven children and adults every second week, but every other week it is just my husband and I, rattling around in a very large home. So with much excitement you can watch our progress over the coming months. We have started in the living area and have pulled up our slate floor, replacing it with a smaller space gas heater. Here are some before and after photos:. I have ov...

July 24, 2016. Hi all long time! I have been working full time over the past two months to pay for some home renovations which has meant time has been in short supply. We are trying to do a lot of the manual labour ourselves so every waking moment has involved either working or pulling up slate, painting windows and thinking about kitchen plans hardly a simple life! In the meantime, we will be enjoying the fun of doing hard manual labour together and planning living spaces to suit our lifestyle. Above is...

A modern-day book club for the sophisticated reader on-the-go. Tuesday, June 18, 2013. 2 books by Pema Chodron. The Wisdom of No Escape and the Path of Loving Kindness. When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times. Neither of these books gives a general overview of Buddhism or its teachings, and neither is focused around a single topic, as Hanh’s sometimes are.
