Mostly Paved: August 2011
http://mostlypaved.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 14, 2011. Here's a video made by a friend that I met in Antarctica. Six days away from Pikes and still feeling the Death Race a little bit. It's going to be interesting. Monday, August 8, 2011. Now that I've completed my first ultra I'm suppose to write a long and detailed report about my race, right? Isn't that what us ultra runners do? Okay, let's see,. Um, well at first I felt good. And then I felt really good. And then I felt just plain ol' good again. That lasted for a while. My mom a...
Mostly Paved: TNF50 end of season
http://mostlypaved.blogspot.com/2011/12/tnf50-end-of-season.html
Sunday, December 4, 2011. TNF50 end of season. I’ll say one thing about ultras – when things don’t go as planned, you generally have a long time to think about it before getting to the finish line. I went out with the leaders yesterday at the (North Face Challenge 50mile championships. Or the North Face 50. Or the San Francisco 50 North Face Challenge. What the hell are we calling this thing? I was not one of those people. I finished 34. Which, like I said, gave me some time to reflect. Running with Mike...

Um, well at first I felt good. And then I felt really good. And then I felt just plain ol' good again. That lasted for a while. And then I started feeling bad. And then I did feel bad. This only seemed to last for a while. Because I started to feel good again. This lasted until a mile before the finish. My mom and I dro...
Mostly Paved: October 2010
http://mostlypaved.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 20, 2010. We spent the better part of Monday morning on the ice runway waiting for clearance to take off in the Basler DC3. Waiting for the temperature to rise just a couple degrees at the South Pole. At -54 °. C the plane can land. At –54.1 °. C it can’t… or at least it’s not suppose to. After a two-hour wait they decided to postpone the flight for 24 hours. Tuesday – wake. Repeat. The temperature at the Pole read 53 °. Flying over the Antarctic Plateau gave me my first glimpse of wha...

In The Midst Of Mountains. Sunday, September 11, 2011. Fall Is In The Air. Over the past week, my early morning runs have started with temperatures between 40 and 50F. With that, my mind moves from the summer season to fall, complete with a warm cup'a joe in hand. So this morning, I couldn't help but scan through some pictures of this summer to remind me of the places my two legs have taken me. I thought I'd share a few:. Brandys Babblings and Bloopers. Sunday, August 30, 2009. The race lived up to all the hype, it very well could be the best mountain race in the world. Rickey Gates and Pablo Vigil have written nice recaps of the race which can be read here: http:/ mostlypaved.blogspot.com/. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Friday, July 9, 2010. 2010 Team Member Eric Blake wins at Loon Mountain Race,. Reprinted from the Running Around CT Blog. Mountain runner Eric Blake (recently named the Central CT women's coach) has a good story now for when people ask him, "What's the craziest thing that ever happened to you when you were running? Blake wasn't really paying attention at first; neither was the bear. It was so hot," he said. "I wasn't thinking straight. You normally would run away.". Instead the bear ran away. World Mount...

Thursday, December 3, 2015. San Bernadino: This is the new normal. My wife and I exchanged emails early last Wednesday afternoon. At one point I could practically hear the anguish in her voice: “When will it stop! And, really, it’s not that bad. Certainly not as bad as the carnage on America’s highways. Don’t believe me? Let’s look at some statistics. First, from the Mass Shooting Tracker, an online tracker that claims to have accurate statistics. As of Oct. 1, there had been 294 mass shootings, ...And c...
