What’s Sutton Valence Birds? Occasional sightings from a Kent village. Laquo; Boxing Day around Stallance Farm. October 15, 2012 by Charlie Peverett. Visited SV yesterday – didn’t make it out for a walk, unfortunately, but a flock of 15 or so Redpolls. Flew over as we set up fireworks in the garden. I was reminded that, when we last came up in August, I saw a Buzzard. Or was it two? Quartering the fields at the bottom of the hill, between the village and Hawkenbury. Posted in local sightings. May 7, 2012.

A photographic diary of a birdwatcher. Travelling the world so you don't have to. On this page you can find links to posts from the UK. It may seem strange that there are so many foreign posts, but so few from my home country. This is because I resent being away from my family for too long and prefer to lavish my attention on them when I get the chance. If I am home for too long my family begin to resent my lavish attention and pack me off into the wilds with a sandwich and a weak lemon drink. Http:/ red...

Go Wild In Kent: Darland Banks
http://gowildinkent.blogspot.com/2014/05/darland-banks.html
Friday, 23 May 2014. A very enjoyable day at Darland banks yesterday. The man orchids are out in 1,000's and plenty of variety to see amongst them. Adonis, common and small blue on the wing with some very close encounters with small blues as they seemed to like resting on my rucksack, which itself was blue! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Go Wild In Kent: Longfield Chalk Bank
http://gowildinkent.blogspot.com/2014/06/longfield-chalk-bank.html
Saturday, 28 June 2014. This small Kent Wildlife Trust reserve close to my front door held a surprise this afternoon in the first marbled white butterflies that I have seen there. In all at least 4 were flying around in the pre thunderstorm gloom along with about 30 ringlets, 6 meadow browns, 4 large skippers and a couple of small skippers. Quite a few 6-spot burnets were also on the wing. Large skipper feeding on thistle. Male small skipper on scabious. Litter and broken tree branches :-(. Another LNR w...

Sunday, 25 January 2015. Kent Harvest Mouse Survey. Yesterday I went on a harvest mouse survey course at Wildwood. The survey is an ambitious one trying to cover all 1,100 land based tetrads in Kent to survey for harvest mouse. A day spent with Steve Kirk and several other folks all learning from Steve and intent on understanding about harvest mouse ecology and then getting some experience looking for their nests in the outdoors near Wildwood. The group gather as the first nest is found.
Go Wild In Kent: May 2014
http://gowildinkent.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Friday, 23 May 2014. A quick look at the local Kent Wildlife Trust roadside nature reserve, the grass verge opposite and the Rectory Meadow nature reserve for emerging or emerged orchids resulted in not seeing that many. In fact I only found three man orchids on a site where in the recent past I have found up to 70. Still after a bit of searching I did find what I think are some emerging man orchids so maybe the majority are yet to appear, fingers crossed. Green hairstreaks were also on the wing. The Nor...

Tuesday, 20 March 2012. Adding Up and Keeping Count! So far I have made 3 trips to the adder site and I think I’ve seen 7 different male adders, which if true is the most I’ve ever seen in one area and quite exciting and the females aren’t even out yet! What do you think, there are certainly 4 different males below but do you reckon there are 7 different males here? Answers on a postcard. This one will be easy to identify as long as the spring flower bee stays put! Sunday, 11 March 2012. There are 11 in ...
Maidstone-UK: May 2009
http://maidstone-uk.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, 28 May 2009. This is the winning design idea for the 4 million pound makeover of the High Street. Vehicles such as buses will travel though, but instead of having old fashion boundaries of kerbs, so you know where is safe, there will be road lines. By the bridge is a busy main road that sees heavy traffic loads, I wonder if this is the safest approach. Don't get me wrong, I am all in favour of the regeneration of the area.
