Mick's Mountain: March 2011
http://micksmountain.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Big hill, small steps. Wednesday, 23 March 2011. Edale Skyline - Tourist Mode. After a miserable February, March has more than made up for it. I managed to get a few days away up in Edale. My youngest daughter Polly has been doing some work experience at the Chestnut Centre. Southern Skyline from Kinder Scout. Above Crookstone barn. Win Hill in the distance. Hope Cross looking towards Win Hill. Win Hill summit looking toward Lose Hill and Mam Tor. Lose Hill summit looking towards Mam Tor and Lords Seat.
Mick's Mountain: September 2013
http://micksmountain.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Big hill, small steps. Friday, 13 September 2013. Lakeland 50 - half the length, twice the pain. Having the UTMB lined up for the following month I decided to err on the side of caution and do the Lakeland 50 this year instead of the 100. Thinking I'd cracked the secret of pain free endurance running in the Joss Naylor Lakeland Challenge three weeks previously was I in for a shock. A pensive Paul Hunt at the start. Terry Coway (Course record holder). Charlie Sharpe (New kid on the block). Back to us mere...
Mick's Mountain: March 2012
http://micksmountain.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Big hill, small steps. Saturday, 10 March 2012. Had a long day out yesterday. Unfortunately most of it was in the car. Set off at 6:30 to get to Grindleford in the Peak District at 9:00 for my third outing on the Grindleford Gallop. This is a course that suits me more than some others due to the long runnable sections with just three hills of any size. In the last two years I'd come 3rd. Within the club which never happens in other, more hilly, races. That final drag along the top of Froggat Edge to the ...
Mick's Mountain: May 2012
http://micksmountain.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Big hill, small steps. Saturday, 26 May 2012. Old County Tops 2012 - Slip Sliding Away. Well that was an unexpected pleasure. I hadn't planned to do this race. So, after a Friday night at Ambleside Youth Hostel and awaking to a very rainy grey morning I drove over to the New Dungeon Ghyll in Langdale and met Kieran, along with his wife Jo and their dog. Also there were Goyt Valley Strider. Clubmates Claire and Caz and Paul and Will as well as ultraplodder Nick. We took a line to the left of the stream cu...
Mick's Mountain: Dusk 'til Dawn Ultra 2012 or a Tale of Five Head Torches
http://micksmountain.blogspot.com/2013/01/dusk-til-dawn-ultra-2013-or-tale-of.html
Big hill, small steps. Sunday, 27 January 2013. Dusk 'til Dawn Ultra 2012 or a Tale of Five Head Torches. For some reason this mainly mad event had an appeal to the mainly mad members of Goyt Valley Striders. We entered this event in droves making the largest single group in the event by a long shot. The weather played its part resulting in competitors taking a variety of routes towards the end. To quote the event website. Windgather Rocks (c) Mick Wren. The weather was very cool but dry (at the moment) ...
Mick's Mountain: July 2011

Big hill, small steps. Friday, 22 July 2011. Two Birds with One Stone (BGR and L100 Training). In an excellent piece of timing my mate Dave decided to join his clubmate Andy in his attempt at the Bob Graham Round (BGR) two weeks before the Lakeland 100. This was an ideal opportunity for me to support Dave and get some last minute training in across Lakes terrain at the same time. This was no random campsite choice. Castlerigg Hall. For many years had died recently. He never did the BGR himself but fr...

Big hill, small steps. Sunday, 27 February 2011. On the Road Again. Intended to do the London Marathon Training run. From Hemel today but left it too late so I went out and did this on my own (saving a few quid in the process):. A run mapped on 27/02/2011. Find more Runs in Tring, United Kingdom. Calf muscles were a bit tight towards the end. More miles required. Saturday, 19 February 2011. English Fell Running Championships 2010. Just thought I'd share this excellent video. Enjoy. Big hill, small steps. Sunday, 28 August 2011. Alternative titles include:. Less Rush, More Haste. Pride Comes Before a Fall. A Race of Two Halves. The Ridgeway Challenge is an 85 (some say 87) mile race along the Ridgeway. Less Rush, More Haste. Mick's Mountain: August 2012
http://micksmountain.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Big hill, small steps. Wednesday, 1 August 2012. When the Lakeland 100 course conspires with the weather it will find any chink in your armour and rip a dirty great big hole in it. I thought my main chink was the sprained ankle that I suffered on the recce a month earlier which was still hanging around. It turned out to be the grumbly digestive system which I've had for a few weeks now. After last year's delay at Kentmere. I drove up to Coniston on the Thursday and stayed at Coniston Holly How youth host...
