The Mountain and the Pine. As a poet I offer both haiku and free verse seminars. These seminars include walking in nature for inspiration and as a meditation. They offer us time to connect with the spirit that lives in everything and to remember we are not apart from nature. We are nature. As an amateur naturalist, I offer wildflower and nature hikes through the State Parks. As a poet I offer walks in nature which feature the reading of favorite poems of participants. The Mountain and the Pine. Old year new year. Placing an unopened note. In the flaming hearth. The arrival of spring. Where in the tangle lives. How the orchid opens its throat. To receive the bee. In the daylily root. Over the dunes spent blossom. Scatter in the wind. These hands that have plucked. The sound of ice. I ease into the darkness. Luminous above the canyon. Fog floats toward solstice. SUMMER SOLSTICE HAIKU SEQUENCE. As the lily opens. So too the day. Warmth of the sun. Splash of a bucket.

Rains In Denver Lead To Mushrooms in Backyard. There is an official USGS rain gauge right across the street, so my numbers are accurate. In April, we had over 2.5 inches of rain; the average is about an inch. In the first week of May over 2.5 inches of rain plus 5 inches of very heavy spring snow. Jana found a very handsome cluster of mushrooms behind the ash tree in the backyard. I didn’t know what they were so I poked around the web and sent emails to some mushroom guys. May 15, 2015.
