The Mountain Thymes: July 2015
http://mountainthymes.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Wear rosemary in your hair and dance like nobody's watching. Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Barb titled this pic of Cliff waiting for his new Generac to cycle for the first time. Man not waiting for a woman! The garden is dry. I've used all the rain barrel water to wet the cucumbers and tomatoes. Actually, the plants are weary and have slowed their production, except for the gourds, which grow like weeds. Found nasturtiums thriving in the brambles of weeds and parsley. He had most of the grill in flames. Couldn...

http://mountainthymes.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Wear rosemary in your hair and dance like nobody's watching. Saturday, March 28, 2015. I put out two hummingbird feeders on Wednesday and made up the first batch of nectar. On 3/27 a male was reported only 93 miles from us in Hoschton, GA and another east of us in Asheville, NC. They're on their way and I wanted to make sure the "travelers" had food for their journey north. Last Saturday I hung a gourd birdhouse that I had quickly carved out. Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Rhubarb poking their little heads t...

Wear rosemary in your hair and dance like nobody's watching. Wednesday, October 29, 2014. I don't know how to cook the big green thing. I also know I. Tuesday, October 28, 2014. We played tourist Sunday and wandered the Blue Ridge Parkway going oooh aaaah like the leaf peepers we make fun of each fall. Sunday, October 19, 2014. I don't know where Linda dug up the authentic Bavarian but he delighted us with his jokes and songs. One of the favorite for the evening was "I Don't Look Good Naked Anymore&#...
The Mountain Thymes: December 2014

Wear rosemary in your hair and dance like nobody's watching. Thursday, December 25, 2014. Dear Lord, I've been asked, nay commanded, to thank Thee for the Christmas turkey before us.a turkey which was no doubt a lively, intelligent bird.a social being.capable of actual affection. nuzzling its young with almost human-like compassion. Anyway, it's dead and we're going to eat it. Please give our respects to its family." Berke Breathed. May you all be blessed with Peace and good health throughout the year.

Karen's Korner: October 2014
http://www.turn3.net/2014_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 26, 2014. After the Petrified Forest we headed east toward Pennsylvania. It was a long, tiring, and fortunately uneventful ride. Some hi-lights(? New Mexico - Delicious smoked ribs that were definitely "fall off the bone". Oklahoma - Windmills that extended in every direction for miles. Arkansas - Dottie's favorite way to travel. Tennessee - Can you sleep like this? Tennessee - Interesting place to stay! We spent two weeks in PA visiting family and friends, relaxing:. What can I say?

Friday, March 8, 2013. Belated Happy New Year! After retiring, my parents frequently remarked that "They didn't know how they ever found the time to work! I now understand perfectly. Since returning to Florida in October it seems like we have been constantly busy. So here is a synopsis of our retired life up to this point. Just before we returned home the family was expanded by one. She has since moved to her "forever" home with our granddaughter. We still have the motorhome. :). In October we attended a...

Sunday, August 26, 2012. After saying farewell to the beautiful Homer Spit, we moved on to Seward. As we traveled along the Cook Inlet we saw what looked like a floating island to the left of us. The magical kingdom of Avalon? It was actually a tall snow covered mountain on the other side of the Inlet but fog and mist can sure play strange tricks! As it was a Saturday there were lots of fisherman about including some four legged ones that you can see in the background of the next picture. Our next stop w...
Karen's Korner: Our Last "Scenic" Stop - Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert
http://www.turn3.net/2014/10/our-last-scenic-stop-petrified-forest.html
Sunday, October 26, 2014. Our Last "Scenic" Stop - Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert. As we had to be back in Florida by the end of August it was time to start heading east. We weren't looking forward to the long days of driving so we made one last stop in Holbrook AZ to explore the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. It was hard to believe that these "rocks" were actually trees that lived 225 million years ago and remain today approximately where they originally fell. Another view. Can only i...

Friday, September 26, 2014. Four Corners and Monument Valley. Our next excursion was to Monument Valley. As the Four Corners Monument was on the way, we stopped there first. There were just too many people present to get good close up pictures. All around the large square are buildings where the local residents (mostly Navajo Indians) sell their crafts. We found the majority of the items to be of good quality and reasonably priced. On to Monument Valley! View from John Ford's Point. View from Artist Point.

Tuesday, August 9, 2011. Friday we drove through the mountains one last time to visit Upper Whitewater Falls. These falls are near Cashiers, NC. The falls drop over 411 feet and are supposedly the tallest falls east of the Rocky Mountains. One last mountain view. I always dread having to pack up and return to our everyday routines. Hopefully this time next year that won't be an issue. If all goes well we should be retired and on permanent vacation. Hurray! Monday, August 8, 2011. After leaving the park w...

Sunday, July 7, 2013. One of the most common questions asked a newly retired person is "What do you do all day? A good friend and I recently had a discussion about this and came to the conclusion that the given answer is frequently "stuff". So what IS "stuff"? For Bob and I "stuff" is pretty much the same every day things that we did when we worked only now we do it at a slower pace and and with more frequent breaks! And all of this had to be completed between the seemingly endless rain storms! And that ...

The Mountain Thymes
Wear rosemary in your hair and dance like nobody's watching. Thursday, April 5, 2018. We spotted our first ruby-throat hummingbird yesterday! He zoomed to the kitchen window feeder, perched, looked above and around before settling to drink. This is a day earlier than last year. Last night's temperature dropped to 27 here on the mountain. We'd love to know where he goes to keep warm on these cold nights. Let the games begin. The bag of mole repellent came out of the shed a few days ago. One night we went ...
