Forest Trail: April 2007
http://joels-trail.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html
I wonder what I'll find around the next bend. Tuesday, April 24, 2007. Blame for the Virginia Tech Massacre. A friend forwarded Del Tacket's editorial. On the Virginia Tech massacre to me today. Tacket blames this tragedy on "an inherently sinful nature," and claims that "Evil lurks in the heart of man and it will erupt when it is allowed to act unconstrained.". I sympathize with the families and friends of those who were murdered, including the family of the murderer. I grieve especially for those p...

I wonder what I'll find around the next bend. Saturday, February 16, 2008. Scientific Study of the Supernatural. This morning I found an excellent paper by Dr. Yonatan Fishman, an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in New York, titled “Can Science Test Supernatural Worldviews? 12 The history of science has been characterized by the progressive ‘naturalization of the world’, providing non-supernatural alternative explanations for pheno...17 Demarc...

Forest Trail: Favorite Bible Translation
http://joels-trail.blogspot.com/2012/02/favorite-bible-translation.html
I wonder what I'll find around the next bend. Sunday, February 5, 2012. My favorite bible for my last couple of decades as a Christian was the Good News Bible, aka Today's English Version. I liked it because it's a good translation, not a paraphrase like The Message. I appreciated its modern, idiomatic English, which avoids the sometimes awkward phrasing of other translations. Forest Trail: Evolution Denial
http://joels-trail.blogspot.com/2010/06/article-in-this-months-christianity.html
I wonder what I'll find around the next bend. Saturday, June 5, 2010. In this month's Christianity Today reported on the resignation of a respected theology professor brought about by his acceptance of evolution. It reminded me of the many years during which I was a Christian embarrassed by the common evangelical denial of evolution. I had trouble understanding why God didn't teach these obviously committed believers that their dogma was wrong. I left this comment on the CT article:. Tells a lot about me.

Forest Trail: July 2012
http://joels-trail.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
I wonder what I'll find around the next bend. Sunday, July 22, 2012. In the wake of the Colorado theater shootings, I posted a Facebook link to an article about gun control, quoting a comment from Anne Lamott that such disasters are never stopped by citizens carrying guns. I was surprised when I received many comments on my posting- even some from people I didn't know- mostly opposing gun control. I added this comment:. It seems that many people have much stronger feelings on the subject than I do. Not t...

Forest Trail: A True Christian
http://joels-trail.blogspot.com/2012/08/a-true-christian.html
I wonder what I'll find around the next bend. Thursday, August 30, 2012. Some people, when they hear that I became an atheist after being a Christian for over 40 years, deny the possibility of such a thing. In some way or another, they say, "No, that couldn't be. You must not have been a real Christian.". When someone calls my Christianity into question, I respond on one of three levels depending on how well the person knows me:. 2 An acquaintance- someone who knows about my Christian background but does...

I wonder what I'll find around the next bend. Saturday, February 28, 2015. North Carolina Prisoner Service Opportunity. The following is an appeal from a North Carolina prison inmate for secular volunteers to participate in a re-orientation program for prisoners. I'm posting it here in hopes that some North Carolina residents will take advantage of this opportunity to assist secular prisoners. Where does one go on a CV Pass? It has been my experience that an overwhelming majority of men embrace Christian...
