Defiant Success: Men I Adore: 20 Favorite Actors
http://movienut14.blogspot.com/2011/02/men-i-adore-20-favorite-actors.html
Movies, books and God knows what else. Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Men I Adore: 20 Favorite Actors. I thought I might as well get this out of the way. I mean, I've mentioned from time to time a few actors that I like watching perform on the silver screen, but I never really committed myself to making an actual list. In alphabetical order, here are my twenty favorite actors. Robert Downey, Jr. February 16, 2011 at 6:52 PM. BTW, great blog! February 16, 2011 at 8:40 PM. No Samuel L. Jackson :(. Once Upon...
Defiant Success: Counterfeit Casting: Montgomery Clift
http://movienut14.blogspot.com/2011/05/counterfeit-casting-montgomery-clift.html
Movies, books and God knows what else. Monday, May 2, 2011. Counterfeit Casting: Montgomery Clift. Requested this one on Twitter after being (ahem) "unamused" by the choices for my last two posts. I had difficulty choosing three ideals actors but all in all, it wasn't bad. Who could portray the troubled talent that was Montgomery Clift? CANDIDATE #1: Ryan Gosling. I'm cheating a little bit since I've only seen Gosling in Half Nelson. I personally can't think of any. CANDIDATE #2: Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Defiant Success: Old Hollywood Alphabet

Movies, books and God knows what else. Monday, April 4, 2011. I got inspired by the tumblr the poor dancing girl she won't dance again. For this post. But considering the author is a TCM junkie, it was easier for her to come up with names for the harder letters. So here's my effort. April 4, 2011 at 12:35 PM. Comments are appreciated. Defiant Success: BOOK VS MOVIE: The Road
http://movienut14.blogspot.com/2012/12/book-vs-movie-road.html
Movies, books and God knows what else. Saturday, December 1, 2012. BOOK VS MOVIE: The Road. There are two types of post-apocalyptic fiction: the "fight for survival" type and the "all hope is lost" type. Sometimes the two types merge but either way, you can bet it'll be as bleak as it can be. Just look at The Road. That said, both the novel and the film are vastly different in regards with presentation. McCarthy's novel is more devoted to the vast bleakness reality has become. Hillcoat's film, wh...I thi...

[film] girl, interrupted: December 2010
http://filmgirlinterrupted.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 22, 2010. Jennifer Lawrence and John Hawkes make "Winter's Bone" a serious Oscar contender: B. The next time you think your family situation is completely effed, I suggest you watch this movie. Nothing compares to the Dollys. Ree discovers that her meth cook father, Jessup, has skipped out on bail and failed to show for court. Ree is told that Jessup put up the house and the land, and that soon her family will lose everything. I really hope that this movie is recognized at the Oscars&...

[film] girl, interrupted: August 2010
http://filmgirlinterrupted.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 25, 2010. The Vault: "Blow" [Blu-Ray]. This is one of my favorite movies. Despite the mixed reviews that were written after its debut in 2001, I stand behind my man. Johnny Depp's portrayal of George Jung is one of his best performances. He adds depth and compassion to the notorious drug dealer, not to mention a lovable aloofness and witty sense of humor. Great film, beautifully shot, well-cast, and fun to watch. Posted by Rachel [f.g.i.]. Monday, August 23, 2010. Yes, Sookie is a fairy.

[film] girl, interrupted: Let's Talk Television! The 10 Shows I Could Not Live Without
http://filmgirlinterrupted.blogspot.com/2011/06/lets-talk-television-10-shows-i-could.html
Wednesday, June 15, 2011. The 10 Shows I Could Not Live Without. Although I focus the majority of my writing energy on movies, I would like to take a moment to discuss the boob tube. Over the years, the quality of television has taken a serious nosedive. We're left with superficial reality shows that send horrible messages. 16 and Pregant"/"Toddlers and Tiaras"). Game shows that require little to no intelligence. Deal Or No Deal"/"Let's Make A Deal"). Gossip Girls"/"Pretty Little Liars"). There's a reaso...

[film] girl, interrupted: [f.g.i.] Presents: Types Of Women Men Would Probably Avoid in Real Life
http://filmgirlinterrupted.blogspot.com/2011/02/fgi-presents-types-of-women-men-would.html
Friday, February 25, 2011. Fgi] Presents: Types Of Women Men Would Probably Avoid in Real Life. I'm sick and tired of watching romantic comedies or dramas that focus on a young man's desire to be with that. Girl You know the type: pretty, quirky, intelligent, possibly a bit of a whore, free-spirited, with a devil-may-care attitude. The movie gods favor such characters because they make for a really good love story, and we're gullible enough to believe that such couples will live happily ever after. She m...

Encore's World of Film & TV: Postcolonial Cinema: The Harder They Come
http://encorentertainmnt.blogspot.com/2015/07/postcolonial-cinema-harder-they-come.html
Scene on a Sunday: Complete List. Friday, 24 July 2015. Postcolonial Cinema: The Harder They Come. Masculinity and postcolonial are already two difficult to explain concepts, putting them together makes for an even more gnarly situation. I deliberately decided to open this series with a discussion as dense as masculinity in a Postcolonial context, though. It's one I'll probably end up returning to. What is Postcolonial. In the first place? The “hero” at the centre, aspiring singer turned crim...An the co...

Encore's World of Film & TV: (Briefly) On Blogging.
http://encorentertainmnt.blogspot.com/2015/07/briefly-on-blogging.html
Scene on a Sunday: Complete List. Saturday, 18 July 2015. Why do film bloggers write? I have been horrible to this blog for the last nine months, forsaking it for other responsibilities and occasional writing elsewhere. Why the delay? The convergence, then, with general blogging ennui and work commitment meant the blog took a seat even further backseat as I asked myself why I was blogging, and it wasn't planned but I just ended up not writing here any longer. I still plan to work through some ideas on wh...

Defiant Success
Movies, books and God knows what else. Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Life in itself often isn't fair to most people. Sure, there can be periods of good fortune but those are usually achieved by sheer coincidence. What's more likely to happen are moments of self-awakening, knowing that your existence won't go off without a hitch. It isn't much of a surprise that Almodóvar had Suárez and Adriana Ugarte (who plays a younger Julieta) read Joan Didion's The Year of Magical Thinking. Continues to prove that Almodóv...
