Reap What You Grow. A Blog dedicated to making stuff with your own produce. Tuesday, 29 June 2010. Having said that, obviously where people are vigilant they have got fantastic crops. You only have to see Ali's blog. From the same allotment site! To see the potential. Ones that were too late to pick for cut flowers were picked just below the flower and placed in water to keep them fresh. Links to this post. Monday, 21 June 2010. Rumours of stolen strawberries. We recently heard a rumour that someone has ...

Reap What You Grow: May 2010
http://reapwhatyougrow.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Reap What You Grow. A Blog dedicated to making stuff with your own produce. Thursday, 27 May 2010. Recently I have been spending a lot of time crocheting things for my new house. Above is a dishcloth made out of cheap cotton bought in car boot sales or on ebay. The inspiration and the pattern were kindly given away for free by crochetspot here. I wonder if I will ever get the courage to use it for something as mundane as wiping the surfaces? Links to this post. Sunday, 16 May 2010. Just a month ago, this...

Reap What You Grow: May 2011
http://reapwhatyougrow.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Reap What You Grow. A Blog dedicated to making stuff with your own produce. Saturday, 14 May 2011. A very welcome visitor from next door. My next door neighbour has the most amazing rose in her garden, and by some miracle of luck, it has grown over to our side. I think it started last year when we notice it had climbed up a tree on our side. This year it kind of collapsed onto our side, and the spur grew so much that I swear we are getting more benefit than they are. What do I do? Links to this post.

Reap What You Grow: November 2010
http://reapwhatyougrow.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Reap What You Grow. A Blog dedicated to making stuff with your own produce. Saturday, 20 November 2010. I love this time of year. The pre-Christmas excitement and planning is my favourite part of the proceedings, and I know exactly why. It's all the creative possibilities, the baking, the making, the shopping, the goodwill, the thinking, the planning. It's my favourite time of year, closely followed by the short-lived bit of summer where camping in the UK becomes a pleasant pastime. You whizz the lemon j...

Reap What You Grow: Indoor Bulbs - trade secrets
http://reapwhatyougrow.blogspot.com/2011/01/indoor-bulbs-trade-secrets.html
Reap What You Grow. A Blog dedicated to making stuff with your own produce. Friday, 21 January 2011. Indoor Bulbs - trade secrets. The only problem was that after about 5 years, I had never really managed to do anything useful with them. I resorted to stuffing them with some dried flowers in dried oasis. It looked okay, but missing any real va va voom. With this basic concept in mind, I bought some bulbs, a combination of ones already potted up and dry ones for sale in packets. Of course, all this enthus...

Reap What You Grow: August 2011
http://reapwhatyougrow.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Reap What You Grow. A Blog dedicated to making stuff with your own produce. Wednesday, 31 August 2011. Kew Botanical Gardens - rediscovering an old friend. Now we've decided the rotation has come back to Kew. Wow, what a decision. In the ten years I had forgotten just how much I love Kew gardens, and how much I've missed it. It's like meeting up with a much loved old friend and being delighted to find that you still have so much in common. However, for sheer beauty of construction, you can't beat the Vic...

Reap What You Grow: The best things come to those who wait
http://reapwhatyougrow.blogspot.com/2011/05/best-things-come-to-those-who-wait.html
Reap What You Grow. A Blog dedicated to making stuff with your own produce. Friday, 13 May 2011. The best things come to those who wait. I have a theory that the longer you wait for something, the sweeter it is when you get it. In our modern consumerist society, we don't wait as long as we might for most things, and I am particularly guilty of frittering away money on instant gratification in the form of seeds, plants, pots etc. After waiting fifteen years, we decided to make it worthwhile, and while oth...

Reap What You Grow. A Blog dedicated to making stuff with your own produce. Tuesday, 25 January 2011. Just as I was thinking that there was nothing interesting in season, I remembered oranges. Oranges, synonymous with walnuts in Christmas stockings, bringing colour and cheer to the winter months. Nigella's Clementine Cake (with Maya Gold). 4-5 clementines, skin on, to weigh 375g (13oz). Melted butter for greasing. 250g (9oz) ground almonds. 1 heaped teaspoon baking powder. 100g Maya Gold Chocolate. As yo...

Reap What You Grow: August 2010
http://reapwhatyougrow.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Reap What You Grow. A Blog dedicated to making stuff with your own produce. Tuesday, 31 August 2010. The Star Rock Shop. Well, this is nothing to do with gardening, and everything to do with my addiction to sweets. However, I found the most perfectly retro, intact sweet shop from days gone by. There were jars of sweets that I haven't seen since childhood. I didn't even know half of these still existed? Links to this post. Monday, 30 August 2010. This has seemed like a year off tending the allotment. ...
