Life in Moz: November 2011
http://audrey-in-africa.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, November 12, 2011. Updates and Whatnot…. With no luck finding a new acceptable housing option – Helen and I have committed to moving sites and teaching at the Cateme Secondary School next year. Even though we’ve fought this moment since March, we eventually gave in and agreed to move. Fortunately, Cateme is only 30 k from Moatize so we’ll be able to. Visit AND keep our same friends/support group! And that’s where we’re headed! And are moving there at the end of November. We’ve got problem...

Life in Moz: Things to “soak up”……
http://audrey-in-africa.blogspot.com/2012/11/things-to-soak-up.html
Friday, November 9, 2012. Things to “soak up”……. Walking to the market this morning, I made a conscious effort to notice as many things about my village as I could that I don’t want to forget. The sticks meticulously pounded into the hard dirt to form a simple fence around a house or a tree. The fact that piglets are probably some of the cutest animals that will quickly turn into the ugliest grown ones. The packs of half clothed criancas. The primary school kids in their blue uniforms, carrying a 5-liter...

http://carolinajayz.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 28, 2010. All you need is love. 8220;Keep in mind the parents of the students you will be teaching lived through the civil war and probably didn’t have the opportunity to go to school. They’re new to this too.”. Students are arranged into turmas or classes. They all take the same subjects (called disciplinas here) because they all stay in one room while the teachers move around. So for example: say there are 3 classes/groups of students in 8. School Scheduling, so complicated. The gradi...

Life in Moz: Twenty Four Trips Around the Sun
http://audrey-in-africa.blogspot.com/2012/08/twenty-four-trips-around-sun.html
Monday, August 6, 2012. Twenty Four Trips Around the Sun. You know how some birthdays pass just like any other day? And yes, I’ve had a whopping 24 of them so I’m plenty qualified to make that statement. Not bad, but not really awesome – just a day. Well, I felt like this July 3. Was exceptional – even on a Tuesday…. Well first I have to tell you about my pre-birthday weekend. Hannah and I had planned a troca (“exchange”) for our REDES groups. We had a low-key birthday dinner of fried green tomatoes and ...

Life in Moz: October 2011
http://audrey-in-africa.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 6, 2011. At home, I love everything about cooking. I love finding new recipes and hunting down random ingredients. I love having the kitchen to myself and carefully selecting a playlist to jam out to while I cook. I love when my dad whips out a bottle of wine and some random fancy cheese (or the college version: my roommates, a jug of cheap wine and a cosmo magazine…). I’m the child of foodies, what can I say! During training (a YEAR ago! After a week or two, we started to get our act t...

Life in Moz: Full Circle - Moz 19 Training
http://audrey-in-africa.blogspot.com/2012/11/full-circle-moz-19-training.html
Monday, November 5, 2012. Full Circle - Moz 19 Training. Each time a new input group of volunteers arrives in-country, they have 10 weeks of. Now, its been about 2 years since I completed my training – so the details are a little fuzzy. But overall, I have fond memories of making lots of new friends and bonding over how entirely confused we were by our lives. It was tough though. Training sessions, endless Portuguese lessons and cross cultural workshops occupied my life Monday through Saturday. Secondly,...
