Garlic Loves: September 2006
http://garlicloves.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_archive.html
Because memory makes you hungry" (Simic). Thursday, September 14, 2006. I took my first-ever solo camping trip last weekend. I didn't tell myself, I want to go camping alone, but I planned it by myself, and though I invited my housemate along (he couldn't go), I was ready to be all alone in the Big Woods. Yes, those Big Woods, Laura Ingalls' Big Woods. There's a certain Minnesota State Park. Of course, before I left, since it was a Saturday, I had to visit the farmers' market. And the skin was sweet and ...

Garlic Loves: October 2006
http://garlicloves.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html
Because memory makes you hungry" (Simic). Tuesday, October 03, 2006. Are you coming over for dinner? Are you coming over for love? Also yesterday my bike was stolen while I was at work. I took the train home, went to the kitchen, and made- -. Wait That's not how it happened at all. I didn't cook at all. I made a cup of tea and went to bed. I've lost my heart and my bike, and cooking can't help. Posted by Suzanne @ 8:54 AM. Twin Cities Daily Planet. Poetry Friday: the aleatoric sestina.

Taking a Bite Out of the Midwest: Greeeen Minnesota
http://frost-bite-us.blogspot.com/2008/03/greeeen-minnesota.html
Taking a Bite Out of the Midwest. Thursday, March 13, 2008. I'm used to my friends in the Bay Area being avid recyclers and composting, but from my experiences in Minneapolis, it's far less common. I was pleasantly surprised when I found this article on composting in Minnesota:. For more information you can contact Randy’s Sanitation in Delano Minnesota. Garlic Loves: August 2006
http://garlicloves.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
Because memory makes you hungry" (Simic). Thursday, August 24, 2006. Ketchup at the Barn-B-Q. Yesterday we had a little end-of-summer cookout. The sky spit and threatened all day, but evening blew in cool and pleasant, good for horseshoes and grilling. I made my first ever batch of homemade ketchup! It was a great success, easy, and quicker to cook down than I thought. 15 C brown sugar (I used sucanat). 1/3 C cider vinegar. 2 C black beans, cooked. Cumin, nutritional yeast, berbere, mustard powder. The W...

Taking a Bite Out of the Midwest: New St. Paul Laws: Let’s Par-Tay Till 4 a.m.
http://frost-bite-us.blogspot.com/2008/03/new-st-paul-laws-lets-par-tay-till-4-am.html
Taking a Bite Out of the Midwest. Monday, March 31, 2008. New St. Paul Laws: Let’s Par-Tay Till 4 am. Might the Republicans want to drink until 4 am at their convention in St. Paul in the summer? Some legislators there think so. In a proposal being considered in the Minnesota House, the last call for alcohol would be pushed back two hours from the usual 2 am for all establishments within a 10-mile radius of the convention site. The answer was no. Dude, if "sophisticated" is equal to "staying up all night...

Taking a Bite Out of the Midwest: 2008-01-13
http://frost-bite-us.blogspot.com/2008_01_13_archive.html
Taking a Bite Out of the Midwest. Saturday, January 19, 2008. It's -10 right now, which is easily the coldest it's been since I moved to Minneapolis, and it got me thinking about homelessness. Where would I be right now if I was homeless in Minneapolis? I assume I'd find a shelter, but there are only so many shelter beds to be had. I could go away from the cities and find a shelter. I know one thing I'd never do is sleep in a dumpster. Not in this weather. Monday, January 14, 2008. The woman was excited ...

Taking a Bite Out of the Midwest: 2008-02-24
http://frost-bite-us.blogspot.com/2008_02_24_archive.html
Taking a Bite Out of the Midwest. Friday, February 29, 2008. I read a lot of political blogs and the Huffington Post. Is one of my favorites. While it leans far left (who am I kidding? I'm a CA moderate, which is pretty far left across the nation), it's nice to see well thought out, argued points of view from that perspective. Conservatives have won the war of words for decades now, and thanks to the blogosphere, things seem to finally be changing. Bud Heidgerken of Freeport. Neil Peterson of Bloomington.
