A room without books is like a body without a soul." Cicero. I enjoyed this book and plan to read the rest of the series. The dystopian society is interesting and disturbing. An excellent book about facing the death of someone in your family. I wish I knew this was #2 before I listened to it on my last road trip. An Abundance of Katherines. Funny with great characters. Makes me want to take a road trip. Out of the Silent Planet. It's a brilliant book, but difficult reading. The Fault in Our Stars. I imag...

And Both Were Young: December 2009
http://topazandturquoise.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 30, 2009. This 'n' That with Strange Weather. We needed to go to the store some time this week, and I didn't want to do it on New Year's Eve, so that left us with . . . today. Since our housekeeper Mary is off for the holidays, we naturally didn't pass up the opportunity to have a meal in town. I chose the Ethiopian restaurant, Habesha, and though Lari didn't seem to enthusiastic at the start (which was a surprise) we certainly cleared the entire platter this time. Finally Lari manag...

And Both Were Young: October 2011
http://topazandturquoise.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 31, 2011. Pirates and Fairy Princesses. Since we moved to Kenya when Larissa was three, and since Halloween is not something majorly celebrated here, she hasn't had much exposure to this particular holiday. The closest she came was being a black and white cat for the Fall Festival at our old school. He also had with him light up gummy pumpkins. Light up gummies have always been a big hit at our house. As the sun set this evening I had Larissa demonstrate what one looked like. He had to li...

And Both Were Young: Elementary French Club
http://topazandturquoise.blogspot.com/2011/11/elementary-french-club.html
Tuesday, November 08, 2011. I didn't really care what language they learned as long as they got the chance to be exposed to something different. Kiswhahili would be great. So would French. Or Spanish. Lari started French in second grade, and English a few years later, and I think that students in Romania - and probably all over Europe - start a foreign language even earlier now. Passion Postings: Moving to a New (Online) Address!
http://vplpassionpostings.blogspot.com/2011/10/moving-to-new-online-address.html
Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Moving to a New (Online) Address! Due to changing times, changing technologies, and changing staff, the Library will be consolidating all online reviews to our Shelfari. Page Though we have really enjoyed interacting with readers and authors through the blog, we simply cannot keep it as up to date as we would like. I am moving on to another part of the country, and Michele has taken on new job responsibilities. But we are not disappearing entirely! Want to get started? The Misad...
