The Games We Play: COW 2015 - Friday
http://tgamesweplay.blogspot.com/2015/07/cow-2015-friday.html
The Games We Play. Tuesday, 14 July 2015. COW 2015 - Friday. Just back from another exhausting Conference of Wargamers (COW) weekend at Knuston Hall in Northamptonshire organised by Wargames Developments. I really enjoyed this weekend, and was glad I did as I've actually been a little bored by it for the last few years - too many people turning up expecting to be entertained, and not enough contribution. 1 Decide whether to shoot or not. 2 Identify the vehicles. The terrain was constructed from the vario...

The Games We Play: COW 2015 - Sunday
http://tgamesweplay.blogspot.com/2015/07/cow-2015-sunday.html
The Games We Play. Saturday, 25 July 2015. COW 2015 - Sunday. Sunday was a bit quieter than Saturday. Everyone was tired and there was nice Sunday lunch to look forward too. I'd signed up for a couple of sessions though. First up was Kriegspiel 1914, one of Phil Sabins games and the original version is available from the Connections 2014 website:. Kriegsspiel1914. Looking forward to seeing a published version of this, as I can see it working very well for a number of situations, particularly the Eastern ...

The Games We Play: Battalion Attack
http://tgamesweplay.blogspot.com/2015/06/battalion-attack.html
The Games We Play. Saturday, 6 June 2015. The German defenders, two rifle companies each with a weapons platoon and supported by a battery of mortars. The key position is the central wooded hill area, but the defenders are terribly bunched up here. The chaps dug in near the camera are more dispersed. The central hill position, heavily entrenched. One plucky British platoon braves the German mortar fire and assaults the woods. German reserves move up to intervene. The German counterattack is ineffective.

The Games We Play: COW 2015 - Saturday
http://tgamesweplay.blogspot.com/2015/07/cow-2015-saturday.html
The Games We Play. Saturday, 18 July 2015. COW 2015 - Saturday. Saturday at COW was a pretty busy day (as it always is). I was helping run two games, and there were also a load of sessions to go to. As usual, it was a glorious sunny day. The sun often seems to shine on Knuston. We'd run a few smaller games at the Sheffield Club, including a helicopter assault on a defended bridge, but Tim had since acquired some more toys so we could put on something a bit more grandiose for COW. The helicopters duly lan...

The Games We Play: Mini Jutland 2
http://tgamesweplay.blogspot.com/2015/05/mini-jutland-2.html
The Games We Play. Saturday, 30 May 2015. The German fleet enters. And the Grand Fleet in the distance, battlecruisers already out front. Early exchanges of long range fire damage the German BC. The British BCs take some hits. German BCs try to flee. But it doesn't work out too well. Scratch some BCs. Soon followed by the British ones. Clearly something wrong with our ships today. The opposing lines of Battleships start to sort themselves out. And line up for some hard pounding. View my complete profile.

The Games We Play: August 2015
http://tgamesweplay.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
The Games We Play. Friday, 21 August 2015. One Hour Wargames variants. I am quite a fan of Neil Thomas's rules, in particular his One Hour Wargames, which include not only sets of rules covering everything from Ancients to moderns, but also 30 scenarios, and army generator etc. The rules are so simple it is easy enough to tweak them and bolt bits on, although one much be careful not to completely obliterate the original mechanisms. I've put the WW2 variant up here too on the downloads. As always, this wa...

One on weapons effectiveness, the other on artillery. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Bob Mackenzies site. A fabulous resource for scenarios. The Miniatures Page. The place for wargaming discussions. My homepage. Not updated very often and rather old. View my complete profile. Boots on the Ground.

The Games We Play: May 2014
http://tgamesweplay.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
The Games We Play. Saturday, 31 May 2014. John put on this Napoleonic game using the rules from Neil Thomas's 'Introduction to Wargaming'. I have been interested in using his nineteenth century set and these bore a very close resemblance. This particular game featured the Austrians and French, I got the latter and the CO bore a striking resemblance to the Corsican Ogre. Le petit caporal surveys proceedings from a handy hill. Austrians masses massing in the distance. Over the hill we go. Desperate fightin...

The Games We Play: Operation Charnwood (1)
http://tgamesweplay.blogspot.com/2015/08/operation-charnwood-1.html
The Games We Play. Sunday, 9 August 2015. At something of a loose end one week I decided the time was ripe to plug on with our Memoir 44 Normandy Campaign. Avid readers may recall that the Battle for Hill 112 all went a bit pear shaped for the Germans at the last minute despite some early successes, so Monty is now in a position to press on to Caen from the north a bit earlier than historically. The battlefield from the German side. Shermans and some infantry pushed into the gap. Despite this being a pre...

The Games We Play: July 2014
http://tgamesweplay.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
The Games We Play. Monday, 14 July 2014. We had an interesting foray recently into a period I have played very little, the English Civil War. I have literally played two ECW games before in my entire life. Like the WSS, a period I am vaguely interested in but haven't summoned the energy to do in a serious way. This was a tryout for the rules Mark has been working on them for a while, and he brought a selection of his beautifully painted 28mm figures along to play with. We press on in the centre. In the c...
