8th Grade Language Arts at LHC. January 31, 2012. Well, that vocabulary test isn't pretty. As I've said from the beginning of the year, students will either get A's and B's or F's on the vocabulary tests. They'll either pay attention in class, take notes, and do a little studying and do well or they'll not and do poorly. There just aren't a lot of C's on the vocabulary tests. We reviewed direct objects and transitive verbs a little today, and the students had some practice work. Posted by Mr. Brashear.

8th Grade Language Arts at LHC. February 10, 2012. On Monday and Thursday nights, I teach a GED class (adults) at BDU. Last night, I had students thank me for the lesson. I can't remember the last time my 7th or 8th graders thanked me. No, that's not what I'm in this business for, but it would be nice. Tion is a noun suffix. It makes verbs like create, devastate, and connect into nouns like creation, devastation, and connection. It means "act or state.". Have a great weekend. Posted by Mr. Brashear.

8th Grade Language Arts at LHC. February 3, 2012. Ask your child what punctilious means. Our word part of the day was "punct" which means "point" like in the above word, puncture, and punctuation. Punctuation is used at those "points" in our writing when pauses are needed. Finally, we did an extended response writing today. I gave the students back their last extended response writing which was about "the perfect language arts class" and we discussed the rubric. Posted by Mr. Brashear.
