What Would the World be Like without Math? Today in class, we started a new unit on fractions and factorization. We talked about some big questions that we will be thinking about. One of those questions is: "What Would the World be Like without Math? Posted by Carlie Connair. As much as I like and highly recommend the Uglies Trilogy. I have decided to take a break from those books and read another recommended story. I am currently beginning to read The Hunger Games. Thanks John E. for the suggestion!

Time of My Life. At the beginning of my time with all of you, I set the goal of reading 10 books recommended by students (and teachers) at GMS. I am proud to say that I met my goal! I finished Love that Dog. And Hate that Cat. During my last week. I have 10 books that I can add to my "must reads" list and would recommend all of them to anyone who is looking for a good read. Love that Dog. And Hate that Cat. Are great books. They are stories told through poetry (which I love). Posted by Carlie Connair.

A World without Math? Written by Daniel Lew. On 19 May 2006. Try to imagine a world without numbers. No more addition or subtraction, algebra nor calculus. No more high school geometry. It would be pretty hard to get by without basic counting, such as being able to tell whether you had caught five fish or ten fish. Yet one tribe in Brazil seems to get by just fine with practically no comprehension of any mathematical concepts. Theory. The Pirahã certainly have a unique way of life. April 23, 2009 - Chewi...

Well, today we are celebrating Pi Day, friends. How exciting! Please post some awesome pikus as comments to this post. Here is an article from the NPR blog about pi-kuing! Sunday] is March 14, 3/14, 3.14, or as it's known to many unlikely to have other plans, Pi Day. I'm learning about a few ways Pi Day is celebrated by so-called mathletes. There are pie contests. And some people, we understand, write pi-ku- haiku about pi. I say we take it one step nerdier and make new rules. First line: 3 syllables.
