Mrs. King's Music Class: Advice for the New Music Teacher
http://mrskingrocks.blogspot.com/2015/08/advice-for-new-music-teacher.html
Advice for the New Music Teacher. It doesn’t seem like that long ago that I was a nervous, newly wed, twenty-something that walked into her classroom for the first time. I was excited and terrified at the same time. I was a dreamer and a hard-worker, but I didn’t feel ready. It didn’t matter. The kids were coming regardless of how ready I felt. Make your room beautiful. Go ahead. Wallow around in the perfectly printed and laminated fruits of your labors. No! Is your room inviting? Many are print and post.
Mrs. King's Music Class: For the Love of Lamination
http://mrskingrocks.blogspot.com/2015/08/for-love-of-lamination.html
For the Love of Lamination. Seriously, I often wish that I had relationships with humans that were as satisfying as my relationship with my laminator. A couple of years ago all I wanted for Christmas was a personal laminator and a stack of laminating pouches. Santa heard my cosmic plea and I’ve been one crazy laminating mama ever since. In this post we’ll discuss some tips for great lamination. Just in case I don't mention it later, the best tip for perfect laminating is a perfect little helper! Iron fro...
Mrs. King's Music Class: Making Swimming Noodle Ponies
http://mrskingrocks.blogspot.com/2012/07/making-swimming-noodle-ponies.html
Making Swimming Noodle Ponies. There's always a school project of some kind happening. This week I've been making stick ponies out of swimming noodles. Its true that they look a little like seahorses instead of regular horses, but I think that just makes them even more special! To make these ponies you'll need:. A swimming noodle (the skinnier ones work best). Felt (9 x 12 sheets work well). Low temp glue gun and glue. Next turn the piece of felt long ways and cut a strip about an inch wide. Cut the ...

Make Me a Mirror: November 2012
http://makemeamirror.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Make Me a Mirror. Wednesday, November 21, 2012. This month is the Thanksgiving holiday, and while I'm thankful all year, I'd like to post a daily thing I am thankful for this month. I'm starting a few days late, and I may miss a day, but that's ok. I'll just make it up when I can! Actually, most people are doing this on their facebook statuses, but for some reason I'm kind of stubborn and when I see everyone else doing something, I don't want to do it that way.lol. Day 4 - Washer/Dryer - I'm thankful for...

Thoughts on composing, playing and teaching music. Monday, January 27, 2014. Homework Assignments - Hmmmm! I can't believe that I haven't done this sooner, but in my string classes I have sent home three homework assignments this year - two for the beginners, one for the second-year players. Of course, we all expect our students to practice, and some of them do. Actually, many of them do. But what exactly do they practice? So, three weeks ago, I handed out a page that said something like this:. Subscribe...
Motifs in Music: June 2014
http://musicmotifs.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Thoughts on composing, playing and teaching music. Tuesday, June 24, 2014. On Facebook I found a link to a series of lessons on fiddling, and the first lesson on Bile 'Em Cabbage Down is free. You can find it here. Like Orff, it uses a simple song and then adds variation upon variation with some room for improvisation and creation. Like Fiddle Camp, it teaches the song by ear. Well, that's like Suzuki, too. It also throws in some chord theory. Sunday, June 22, 2014. Catching Up and Fiddle Camp. Interesti...
