December 15, 2016. This week we read and discussed an informational text called Talking Tools. We took the chapter 4 test over two-digit addition and started a new chapter over two-digit subtraction. So far students have used the "break apart" strategy to subtract a one or a two-digit number from a two-digit number, modeled two-digit subtraction with regrouping, and recorded two-digit subtraction using the standard algorithm. November 10, 2016. This week we read and discussed Splash Photography. And Jellies: The Life of a Jellyfish. We took the chapter three test over basic facts and relationships and started chapter four over two-digit addition. So far students have found a sum by breaking apart a one-digit addend to make a two-digit addend and a multiple of 10, and used compensation to develop flexible thinking for two-digit addition. Friday, March 10: Spirit Day students can pay $1.00 to wear sweat/wind pants to school if they wish. This is also an optional sack lunch day. Show and share will be on a daily rotating alphabetical order schedule. I have a "Show and Share Bag" that I will send home with a different child each DAY. When your child brings the show and share bag home, please have him/her put ONE. Item in the bag that he/she would like to share with the class. Also, PLEASE make sure your child returns the bag to school the next day so it can be passed on to the next child without any interruptions in the schedule. Please do not bring live pets/animals for sharing.
