From furry friends who are members of my family to majestic eagles flying high, dolphins dancing at sea, horses gaily galloping, or brown bats performing ballets in the sky, animals have always held a special place in my heart.

Ideas, questions, thoughts, and reflections of an educator who teaches first grade students and loves what she does. Love what you do! Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. - Confucius. Tuesday, June 28, 2011. These were not the type one could easily pull out with tweezers, but nasty, fuzzy little splinters and needles that infested his entire hand and were nearly impossible to see. I felt his pain and had no clue what to do at this moment. How do you remove the nasty...

Second Grade - Bring it ON!: Taking The Plunge Into Primary

http://2ndgrbio.blogspot.com/2011/09/taking-plunge-into-primary.html

Second Grade - Bring it ON! Saturday, September 17, 2011. Taking The Plunge Into Primary. I completed my student teaching in fifth grade this past May. Throughout the whole year I said repeatedly that I was going to wait for a job in either the intermediate grades or a middle school position. There was no way that I was going to teach in the primary grades. As fate would have it I am currently teaching second grade! September 18, 2011 at 1:32 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Mrs. Tautkus' Thoughts: Igloo (924 milk jugs!)

http://mrstautkus.blogspot.com/2011/01/igloo.html

Igloo (924 milk jugs! 30 worth of hot glue. My first grade class has built an igloo out of recycled milk jugs. To our complete surprise, we collected nearly 1,000 milk jugs! At the end of September we learned about the harm of too much waste. Plastic takes 100's of years to break down. We decided to do something to make a change. Next step: Students are working on a presentation about recycling and our igloo. Check out http:/ www.gogreenfirstgrade.weebly.com/. For updates in February. It Only Takes ONE.

Mrs. Tautkus' Thoughts: Snowball

http://mrstautkus.blogspot.com/2010/12/snowball.html

This is a backpost from November. Sometimes our First Grade Community in Action project seems too big, slightly out of our control, and definately overwhelming. As I take a moment to sit back and reflect, I smile and remember: this is what I wanted and this is what I'm getting. Students motivated for a greater purpose than to please the teacher. Students taking action, not only in the classroom, but at home and in the school. And of course, a little dash of fun! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Mrs. Tautkus' Thoughts: Ghosts and Goblins, oh my!

http://mrstautkus.blogspot.com/2010/10/ghosts-and-goblins-oh-my.html

Ghosts and Goblins, oh my! Today I am reminded of a fun book a colleague gave me a few years back, This is the Teacher. About a teacher who is ready for school to begin. However, by the end of the day, with all of the mishaps and adventures, the teacher is. all ready for bed. I would like to recommend that the author write a sequel about the same teacher on Halloween. Oh the sugar, sweets, excitement, and adventures that ensue in any classroom on Halloween. Mrs. Tautkus' Thoughts: Turning the Page

http://mrstautkus.blogspot.com/2011/03/turning-page.html

I love my job. Even on the hard days, I love my job. Today was one of. Days It had it's highs. It had it's lows. It even through a curve ball or two. This is how it is with our kiddos. Today is done. Tomorrow is a new day. Help your kiddos to turn the page and see the "clean slate." Whatever happened on Tuesday stays on Tuesday. Wednesday is a fresh start. Wednesday can be whatever we make of it. Make good choices, try your best, and succeed once again! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Mrs. Tautkus' Thoughts: April 2011

http://mrstautkus.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

24 excited, bubbly students walked through our classroom door this morning. Why the excitement? Our igloo was published on the front page of the Education section of the local newspaper! Way to make a mark first graders! Sometimes we need a moment of laughter to lighten the stress of daily life. I had to use a common homework excuse to get out of returning my students homework today. My dog ate my students homework! It is hard for me to accept that I only have 37 days left with this class of heroes!
