http://cotslabnotes.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 4, 2012. Well the classes for the year are finished and last week we held our awards mornings. Here is a photo of the assembled students and their parents for the Grade 3 event. Project. This is part of a global classroom project. That I have initiated. It's always exciting when one of one's cyber friends is recognised for their efforts. Pru Thomas of Sydney has been nominated for her blog about Flat Rosie and her adventures. Please consider voting for her wiki here. On being a connecte...

Robyn Thiessen's blog: September 2016
http://soaringthroughthird.blogspot.com/2016_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, 25 September 2016. As an experienced educator(over two decades, eeeek! It would be easy to fall back on tried and tested “old school” ways of teaching and class arrangement. But that is just not me! What would students do with all their supplies? Would students choose learning spaces based on their needs or the needs of their friends? How would I manage all of these different seating arrangements? How would the lack of overhead lighting effect learning? Would students be respectful of the space?

Robyn Thiessen's blog: April 2012
http://soaringthroughthird.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, 29 April 2012. A little of this and a little of that. April has been a huge month for me. I was given an opportunity to attend a presentation by Alec Couros which allowed me to reaffirm all the changes that I have made in my teaching this year. I have also been asked to attend an iTunes U workshop this week at Apple headquarters in Richmond, I am very excited to say the least. In class my students have been finishing their Prezi's, which we had a huge celebration for! Always a fun time! Many stud...

Cotswold Lab Notes: October 2013
http://cotslabnotes.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 23, 2013. Moving on and up. The end of the year is almost here and we are enjoying our lessons in the lab. Grade 3's returned to their blogs in Kidblog. The next week we had a discussion about culture. What is it? They wrote a blog post in their personal blog about how they celebrate weddings or funerals. During the discussion we agreed that respect for others and their culture are very important. From Oakdome.com. The purpose of teaching the students to edit photos is for proj...Grade...

Cotswold Lab Notes: March 2013
http://cotslabnotes.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 21, 2013. We are very privileged to have a visitor from Pennsylvania, USA at the moment. Flat Tyler is from Mrs Tina Schmidt's class and he has come to find out about our children and our school. We are all very excited and the class teacher has been taking photos for a slide show that the children will present to the rest of the school on Tuesday. We have a visitor from the usa. We have another Grade 2 class waiting for the arrival of a Travelling Rhino. Links to this post. The beauty of...

Cotswold Lab Notes: Literacy, both language and computer
http://cotslabnotes.blogspot.com/2013/03/literacy-both-language-and-computer.html
Saturday, March 9, 2013. Literacy, both language and computer. The beauty of typing their sentences is that I can go around to each child and help them edit out the errors immediately. It's so much gentler and more friendly than red marks on the child's book in class. The grade 3's have been busy with a project on bullying. They worked in pairs and made presentations in response to some questions I set for them. We watched a YouTube video. Lonwabo Charles asks a student to tell him if his move is correct.

Cotswold Lab Notes: February 2013
http://cotslabnotes.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 3, 2013. It's been a slow start to the new school year for me. It's really hot at this time of the year and the lab is uncomfortable most of the time. Although there is an air conditioner it tends to trip the power and we have to spend 10 to 15 minutes of our precious time booting up the server and PCs again so I try to do without it. Grade 3's have been using the All about Me theme from class to create a word cloud of adjectives. And how it is used by teachers. Project, Special Events.

Cotswold Lab Notes: May 2013
http://cotslabnotes.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 18, 2013. Collaboration across age groups. This week I experienced one of those serendipity lessons that worked out really well. I used a lesson I had picked up from friend, Liesel Kruger in East London. It involved the children being given a set of cell addresses and colours in Excel. They have to fill the cell addresses with the stipulated colour and the result is a picture. In this case it was a house. We had another exciting event this week. Lilitha the Travelling Rhino. I have been thi...

Cotswold Lab Notes: September 2012
http://cotslabnotes.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 6, 2012. The blogging adventure continues. It's been a great couple of weeks as far as blogs and bloggings go. First I had the honour of being featured in Anthony Salcito's Daily Edventures. Blog I find it a humbling experience. Over the past months I have bookmarked some interesting online articles on blogging for students. This particular one gives 14 Steps to Meaningful Student Blogging. We started by doing a lesson on online safety, focussing on not sharing personal information su...
