Snow’s Successful Strategies. Reflection on Theme →. Book vs. Movie. 6th graders are reading a novel and comparing and contrasting the text to the movie version. They are recording the similarities and differences that they notice. Students read a section (a chapter or two) and then immediately compare it to the movie version of the same scenes/events. How many of you somehow invited their internal editors back, decided what they were writing was rubbish and gave up? How many couldn’t even get started because that terrible little editor was perched on your shoulder, filling your ear with negativity? And so, reassured that even if what I wrote was utter rubbish, well, at least I began.

Before we left for break, sixth graders created either a Google slide show project or a scrapbook highlighting the American Industrial Revolution, and some of the inventions and inventors of that time. Some students even dressed up as a specific inventor! We saw Cyrus McCormick, John Deere, Zeppelin, and the Wright Brothers.
