Mr. Unschool: Pushing Charities on Kids
http://mrunschool.blogspot.com/2007/12/pushing-charities-on-kids.html
Friday, December 7, 2007. Pushing Charities on Kids. The Mystic River Press. Story is on B2) has what is meant to be a feel-good story about a teacher spreading moral responsibility by teaching her middle school class about a charity she likes, Heifer International. Fortunately, in this case, it is a good neutral charity with a mission just about anyone can appreciate. But what if a teacher did this for some charity with a deep social or political agenda? What about the ACLU? Posted by Keith Brainard.
Mr. Unschool: February 2008
http://mrunschool.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 27, 2008. Book Review: "Tom" by Tomie dePaola. Tomie dePaola makes a lot of books for kids. I must admit that we got a lot of his books coming through the house before I really started to get into him. His books are generally of high quality, but occasionally there are outstanding books that he makes. "Tom" is one of my all-time favorites! But the coolest thing is "garunge-arunge-a"! I also like the way that this book, like most of dePaola's is just the right readability - not too lon...
Mr. Unschool: Preschool TV
http://mrunschool.blogspot.com/2008/02/preschool-tv.html
Monday, February 18, 2008. I know I don't post here that often. I don't really seek out things to complain about if I can avoid it. But this morning watching PBS Kids, I can't help but shake my head in disbelief at some of the themes and messages they're putting out there. First, there's the interlude sections. The preschool-like setting with a woman (Miss Laurie? And a little rat (Hooper? Second, what is a junior princess anyway? Fourth, the test she's scared of is trivial. It is a six-piece puzzle&...

Mr. Unschool: School Marketing
http://mrunschool.blogspot.com/2007/12/school-marketing.html
Wednesday, December 26, 2007. I admit, posting here isn't happening all that often. But I got a post via my feeds that I had to post about here. Seth is a marketing guy, and posts about marketing stuff, often with an internet slant. Today's post. Is about how all the front line employees need to be cognitive of their roles in marketing. The part that fits in here is:. When you yell at a classroom full of kids because one kid misbehaved,. That's a marketing decision. Posted by Keith Brainard.

Dryer Ventilator: October 2007
http://dryerventilator.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
Adventures and tales of the Dryer Ventilator LLC. Friday, October 26, 2007. So for those of you who paid attention, Coogan and Gildersleeve. Posted by Keith Brainard. Thursday, October 25, 2007. Thank you Coogan and Gildersleeve! Another fine referral from Coogan and Gildersleeve. Plus the inside of the dryer was really dirty. The woman kept pretty quiet, taking care of business upstairs on the phone answering messages and then cleaning a bit, but she was really nice too. Posted by Keith Brainard. The fi...
Dryer Ventilator: Old Mystic
http://dryerventilator.blogspot.com/2007/12/old-mystic.html
Adventures and tales of the Dryer Ventilator LLC. Tuesday, December 18, 2007. Another great lead from Coogan! A family called me today, and I was able to respond immediately (as soon as I got done sliding around on the ice in the back yard with my 4-year-old daughter). An apparent clogged vent - pretty typical scenario, with plenty of opportunity for improvisation and problem solving. If you are having venting problems, please feel free to email me. Dryer Ventilator: August 2007
http://dryerventilator.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html
Adventures and tales of the Dryer Ventilator LLC. Friday, August 31, 2007. One of the jobs I did today was a sweet house in East Hampton (Connecticut). It was really tucked out of the way, but yet still close to main roads. My old map book didn't even have the roads to lead to it! Anyway, their laundry room was up on the bedroom floor (which I wish mine was). But as a cleaner, what a pain in the a$! That means the vent outlet to outside is also up on the second floor. My Little Giant. So I will once agai...
Dryer Ventilator: September 2007
http://dryerventilator.blogspot.com/2007_09_01_archive.html
Adventures and tales of the Dryer Ventilator LLC. Saturday, September 29, 2007. Beautiful Colonial Old Wethersfield Connecticut. Thursday's second job (to which I was about two hours late) was in perhaps the coolest all around house I have been in. And that is saying a lot, since I have been in freakin' multi-thousand square foot mansions around Avon, etc. Thus are the ups and downs of the dryer ventilation business. I wonder what's in store for next week? Posted by Keith Brainard. But three jobs each ta...
Dryer Ventilator: Anatomy of a Dryer Ventilation System
http://dryerventilator.blogspot.com/2007/11/anatomy-of-dryer-ventilation-system.html
Adventures and tales of the Dryer Ventilator LLC. Wednesday, November 28, 2007. Anatomy of a Dryer Ventilation System. The purpose of your clothes dryer is to dry your wet clothes that have just been washed in your washing machine. To do this, the dryer applies heat (at a level of your setting, if so equipped) and moves the clothes around while creating airflow. The heat and spinning dry off the clothes, and the airflow carries the hot, wet air out of and away from the dryer. Ou may notice that your tran...

A Liberal Perspective: March 2008
http://ctlefty.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html
Commentary on news of the day or week from my unique perspective. Saturday, March 1, 2008. Spanking can be harmful? MSN has a groundbreaking story. That spanking is correlated with problems later in life. I am totally kidding, of course, because obviously beating your child isn't a healthy way to interact with them. I couldn't imagine spanking my kids. I get pretty pissed off at them sometimes, but what possible good could spanking do? Don't hit your kids. Posted by Keith Brainard. My Life With Beer.
A Liberal Perspective: December 2007

Commentary on news of the day or week from my unique perspective. Tuesday, December 4, 2007. Maybe the toy companies are in kahoots. My son got a bunch of toys for his birthday the other day, and there is perhaps more packaging material than actual toy in there. Some of the packaging material is even moulded (is that the British spellling? To look like something real, such that I still have it because I somehow feel bad getting rid of it. 3) Less packaging materials means less cost of goods sold.

Commentary on news of the day or week from my unique perspective. Wednesday, October 31, 2007. Big Pharma is a bunch of crooks. It is perhaps the most crooked industry in America. Then I saw ads for drugs where it wasn’t clear, or even somewhat evident that the alleged ailment was. All I could tell from the TV ads was that I’d be dancing in fields of flowers after I had these pills. Maybe allergy pills? Maybe arthritis pain relief? Some nonsense about doing no harm? Then just the other day, I learned tha...

This is an attempt to tell you what i feel, just the way i feel. Hope my attempt is successful! Friday, March 11, 2011. Hmmm Ya. so what to do? I am amazed at how family can be so enigmatic. They want the best for you. They wish pray and hope only good things happen to you. But then when the onion is peeled layer by layer, there are so many patterns you never understand or at least too difficult to fathom. How do you handle such a situation? Thursday, August 20, 2009. Only one reason actually. After 50 m...

Saturday, March 1, 2008. It's Official: J Lo and Marc Anthony love Dragon Tales! For those of you that don't know, Jennifer Lopez (J-Lo) and Marc Anthony (that creepy guy she's married to) had twins the other day. For those of you that don't know, Dragon Tales is a preschool show on PBS. J-Lo and Marc Anthony named their twins. Max and Emme. Cute names, nice and modern, a little too popular for my tastes, to name my own kids, but better than a lot of the other popular names out there. Tomie dePaola makes...

I'm a girl who once avoided gym class like the plague. Now I run for fun! I'm working my way toward 26.2 again in 2010! Tuesday, May 14, 2013. This one is for Justin! Congratulations to Justin, the #1 fan of my (sorely neglected) blog, on finishing his first half marathon in Providence, RI, over the weekend! You are a rock star, Justin! Links to this post. Tuesday, September 11, 2012. What’s it Worth to You to Dope for the Tour de France? As if I wasn’t already thinking about Lance. 8230;Armstrong, that is (because who has not given at least one nanosecond of thought to the current swirl of events around cycling’s icon for the last many years); I was reading Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl. I am disappointed, though not surprised, to learn that Lance may well have doped. Harsher after-the-fact individual sanctions? What is at stake? To be at the top of cycling i...
