I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, and spent the first 22 years of my life there. After high school, I attended the University of Calgary and I received a Bachelors of Science in Physics. After taking a short-term job in industry with an electrical motor company in Edmonton, I decided to pursue graduate school in Astronomy and moved to Winnipeg to get my Master of Science in Physics, then on to London (Ontario) to get my PhD in Astronomy.
