cacahuatique: Machu Picchu

http://www.msamras.blogspot.com/2009/06/machu-picchu.html

Friday, June 19, 2009. It´s been a while, but since last i wrote, Isanuk joined up with us in Cusco. He´ll be with us until early July, when we´ll be around Bogotá. So we went up and saw Machu Picchu. The ruins themselves were impressive and interesting, but the surrounding scenery makes them all the more breathtaking. There are dramatically steep mountains covered with lush jungle and uncovered Incan and pre-Incan ruins all around. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

cacahuatique: Trekking Jujuy

http://www.msamras.blogspot.com/2009/05/trekking-jujuy.html

Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Ves with, but at the hights we were at, i had to make a conscious effort to take huge breaths if I wanted to walk even for a few feet, without a pack on, without passing out. I ended up taking around 200 pictures. A day because it was so beautiful. The second and third nights of the trek we stayed in very. Mazing natural beauty and not. A single other trekker. We had valleys, passes, mountains, rivers, deserts, forests, and ancient trails all to ourselves. View my complete profile.

Stories from travels and elsewhere. Sunday, September 19, 2010. Here's a quick note from the present, rather than the usual backdated blog post]. I'm very excited (hangover aside) to be leaving tomorrow morning for a 16-day trek to Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes. I had initially planned on hiking the Annapurna Circuit after reading a NYTimes article. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Robin and David's Blog. Xander and Alana's Blog. Meanderings and Musings: Dali

http://misanuk.blogspot.com/2010/08/dali.html

Stories from travels and elsewhere. Tuesday, August 24, 2010. Spirits revived, I rented a biked the next day and set off to explore the countryside. My first stop was the famous Three Pagodas. I parked my back, discovered that the entrance fee was a shocking $25 US (this is China! Took a photo through the gate, and then carried on. That said, throughout my wanderings in China local residents would often come up to me and ask if they could take a photograph.here's a nice awkward example!

http://misanuk.blogspot.com/2010/08/chengdu.html

Stories from travels and elsewhere. Thursday, August 19, 2010. I went to Chengdu to see some Pandas and get a haircut. Great success on both counts. First, some pandas:. As for the haircut, I went to the nicest place I could find. It set me back about $4. The joy of non-tradable goods. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Stories from travels and elsewhere. Sunday, August 8, 2010. En route from Xi-an to Xiahe, I stopped for a short overnight in the city of Lanzhou. This wikipedia snippet does a pretty good job describing my experience in the city:. Lanzhou is one of the 30 most polluted cities in the world, with its TSP (total suspended particle) rating 247% above that of the Gansu State recommendation. The. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Meanderings and Musings: Everest Knedliky Prosciutto

http://misanuk.blogspot.com/2011/01/everest-knedliky-prosciutto.html

Stories from travels and elsewhere. Sunday, January 9, 2011. Whenever I return from traveling I always have the intention of "finishing" the writeup of stories from my trip. This never happens. So I'll close my account of summer travels with one last story. During my trek in Nepal we stopped at Everest Base Camp. Base camp sits atop a glacier. Czech (& Slovak) mountaineers. I must have produced something that resembled actual Czech as they soon invited me to stay for lunch! Knedlikly and Cesky zeli.

Meanderings and Musings: June 2010

http://misanuk.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Stories from travels and elsewhere. Thursday, June 24, 2010. On conversation in rural El Salvador. This post was written in February, 2008]. On our way back down from the mountain,. After buying a chicken and getting some ice pops,. We stopped at Mike's host mother's house. Eventually Mike bid his farewell and we all filed out. I left feeling guilty about my inability to speak the language and contribute to the flagging conversation. Mike explained rather simply "there are no awkward pauses.".

Meanderings and Musings: October 2008

http://misanuk.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Stories from travels and elsewhere. Thursday, October 16, 2008. The two most nerve-wracking experiences of my time in Morocco - and my imagined worst-case scenario reactions for each (this post is for the rents):. Only peer pressure compelled me forward. It was worth it though - the horizontal summit was sublime. Delicious snacks and views. Then similarly frightening descent. Breathed enormous sigh of relief when back on main road. I prefer to see it as prepared. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

http://misanuk.blogspot.com/2010/09/xiahe-and-langmusi.html

Stories from travels and elsewhere. Friday, August 13, 2010. Xiahe and Langmusi are two towns in Western china at the border of the Tibetan plateau. I spent 5-6 days between the two and went on a few great hikes (two day trips and one overnight), saws lots of Tibetan monasteries, ate more Yak-derived food products than I could have imagined, and hung out with some very chill French and Austrian travelers.
