Generation Y-Not?: Nothing can take away the Magic!
http://msberman.blogspot.com/2012/03/nothing-can-take-away-magic.html
Let’s strive to utilize our greatest resource in public schools, the students themselves. #PromoteTeenLeadership. Saturday, March 10, 2012. Nothing can take away the Magic! Written by Ms. Berman. There are some things in life that I know to be true with the upmost of certainly. One of them is that the students at I.S. value the sense of community (frequently referred to as the I.S. family) to the highest degree. We are going through a period of adjustment at SDHS, no doubt. Adults sometimes get frustrate...
Generation Y-Not?: August 2011

Let’s strive to utilize our greatest resource in public schools, the students themselves. #PromoteTeenLeadership. Wednesday, August 17, 2011. Inspired by Nidia Davenport. Dedicated to all IS and MVP Arts Students. It is mid-August… the time in which most dedicated teachers begin to reflect and dream. It always strikes me as odd when I awaken, because discipline is not an area in which I ever plan for or concern myself with. How do you handle the kids with an attitude? But then I took a moment to think ba...
Generation Y-Not?: Unexpected Metamorphosis
http://msberman.blogspot.com/2012/02/unexpected-metamorphosis.html
Let’s strive to utilize our greatest resource in public schools, the students themselves. #PromoteTeenLeadership. Wednesday, February 15, 2012. Written by Ms. Berman. Dedicated to the c/o 2014. It is widely known that if there is a loss or change in the personal life of a teenager, a resilient young adult will undergo a paradigm shift and alter his/her behavior in order to compensate for this alternation. In addition, Chemistry is a difficult course to grasp conceptually and can rarely be self-taught.
Generation Y-Not?: Ode to Luis

Let’s strive to utilize our greatest resource in public schools, the students themselves. #PromoteTeenLeadership. Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Written by Ms. Berman. Fixating on pictures and texts, disbelieving. For hours each of us processing, grieving. Riddled with guilt for flaking that day. Dwelling on words, all lost chances to say. A piece of us broken, such angst and despair. Yet we know from reflecting now's the time we must share. And continue to speak with you, continue to love.
Generation Y-Not?: May 2011

Let’s strive to utilize our greatest resource in public schools, the students themselves. #PromoteTeenLeadership. Tuesday, May 24, 2011. The Teachers of the Classroom. Today I handed over the control of the course curriculum to my IB Biology students. Did I feel compelled to justify my decision? Of course I did. Now it was time to give them some autonomy. I know that I stand in the minority in my way of thinking, but I contend that we underestimate the ability of our students to self-regulate. Collaborat...

Verdugo City: May 2010

Monday, May 24, 2010. Looking Through the Telescope at Griffith Observatory. Griffith Park Observatory was never a scientific observatory - it was built for public education. The unlikely-named Griffith Griffiths gave the land to the city, which I suspect coveted it mostly as valuable watershed. But from the beginning the park was dedicated to public recreation and education, with the Observatory as the most prominent landmark - not counting the "Hollywood" sign, nearby but not quite in the park. The air...

Saturday, March 28, 2009. Why Advertising is Failing on the Internet". I found this article very interesting - http:/ www.techcrunch.com/2009/03/22/why-advertising-is-failing-on-the-internet/. My basic premise is that the internet is not replacing advertising but shattering it, and all the king’s horses, all the king’s men, and all the creative talent of Madison Avenue cannot put it together again. Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Piece of my Heart. On Thursday afternoon I am scheduled to have a procedure performed on my heart to correct a condition called atrial flutter. Some of my friends have been curious and some concerned so I thought I'd try to explain it as well as I can. The good news is that the procedure is very low risk, and highly likely to permanently repair the atrial flutter. The Wikipedia description of atrial flutter. Friday, February 19, 2010. When I heard that "The Who" would play halftime at the Super Bowl, I cringed. Jeez, I thought, do people really want to see two old guys from a once great band that had its last hit 30 years ago? Why would they be invited? Why would they do it, except for the money? Do they really need it? But when my 16 year old son told me about the VH-1 Rock Honors the Who concert at UCLA Pauley Pavilion in June 2008 and asked if I wanted to go, what could I say? My son wants to see the Who?

Thursday, January 27, 2011. This is the message I left at the memorial site when I learned my High School Biology teacher, Mr. Richards Farnham, had passed away. My mother, my uncle, my aunt, my brother, my sister, and I were all students of Mr. Farnham. And all of us carry a little piece of him into the future. Thank you Mr. Farnham. Tuesday, June 16, 2009. Strawberries are one of the most labor intensive crops around. Unlike many fruits, they ripen unevenly, so you have to look at each berry to see if its ready to pick. The teams of laborers work from one end of a field to the other over the course of a few days, then they go back to the beginning and start over. Posted by A. Michael Berman. Links to this post. Thursday, December 20, 2012. Draft - Technology Forecast 2013. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions! Below is the article as submitted. The ways in which we socialize, work, learn, and relax have all changed in just five years. Take a look around at your next social gathering and count the times that someone pulls out a smartphone. Or, perhaps more frightening, observe how many freeway drivers’ faces are illuminated by the glow of a phone or tablet. (I recommend you do this from the p...Perhaps the mos...

A Harvey County Farmer's Daughter
A Harvey County Farmer's Daughter. Saturday, July 27, 2013. Finding reason to be excited. Well, it has finally happened. Seriously. No more TTC roller coaster and overanalyzing every little "new feeling", hoping that finally we had something "stick". I remember when we started this journey and girls would lament either in person or on my online support boards about how hard it was for them when they were TTC'ing. The ups and downs of just wanting to know. I'll take that and raise you 22 months. Oh, the i...

Upgrade to paid account! The cure for parent-adult child disputes. From Selma to Stonewall. Dec 20th, 2008 09:40 pm. Anyway, it's a mansion now owned by one of my gf's relatives and they decorate it with antique oars (as staircase banisters) and murals of miniature chairs (remind me of the giant adirondack chairs at Swarthmore College). Let’s strive to utilize our greatest resource in public schools, the students themselves. #PromoteTeenLeadership. Wednesday, March 26, 2014. The Meterstick of Self-Worth. Translating these critical values into our lessons as high school teachers is tricky business. Focusing upon the emotional well being of our teens while simultaneously presenting a well balanced curriculum leads to the age old question: What is our most important role as educators? How do they feel about this decision or that? A piece o...
