The 3-Mile, 10% Rule – Dove Dialogs
http://msdovenator.com/2015/04/04/the-3-mile-10-rule
Ramblings from an accidental athlete. The 3-Mile, 10% Rule. Date: April 4, 2015. So I have this theory about running. I’m pretty sure it explains why most people try running and quit before they start making much progress. I call it my 3-Mile, 10% Rule and this is how it plays out…. Explaining the rule to new runners. The Fear and Joy of DFL. 3 thoughts on “ The 3-Mile, 10% Rule. April 4, 2015 at 9:18 am. Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder. April 4, 2015 at 12:26 pm. The Fear and Joy of DFL – Dove Dialogs
http://msdovenator.com/2015/04/15/the-fear-and-joy-of-dfl
Ramblings from an accidental athlete. The Fear and Joy of DFL. Date: April 15, 2015. When I first started running my biggest fear was to enter a race and come in Dead Flippin’ Last or DFL. Sometimes it’s not about being your fastest. Sometimes it’s about hanging out in the back and fearlessly encouraging others. When I got brave enough to talk to other runners, I found they shared the same fear. That fear can often be enough to prevent a newbie from even trying an organized race. I'm a mover. I like ...

Ramblings from an accidental athlete. The Phenomena of the Free Range Peanut and the Urban Dollar. Date: May 14, 2015. I wonder how long this dollar will remain unclaimed? Sometimes a casual walk through the neighbor can do more for you physically and mentally than a hard, sweaty workout. Today it was just the kind of activity I needed. The best part of a walking day is discovering things I may never see if running or cycling. Get out there, explore your town. Use your senses and see what awaits....I'm a...

Ramblings from an accidental athlete. Sometimes the most memorable race is the one you didn’t run. Date: June 24, 2015. Feeling better and back to running again. When people discover that I have some experience in the distance running world they always ask me the same question: which race was my favorite? And my answer is always the same: the last one I ran. I didn’t run my last one! I called in sick that morning! Tumwater, WA, USA. The Phenomena of the Free Range Peanut and the Urban Dollar. You are com...

Rise.Run.Mom.Repeat.: I Was Robbed
http://riserunmomrepeat.blogspot.com/2015/01/i-was-robbed.html
One early morning mother runner's thoughts about running, parenting and life in general. Thursday, January 8, 2015. I'm not a suspicious person. I never have been. I don't try to find the evil in others. It's just not how I'm wired. At least I wasn't. Until December 10, 2014. I debated whether or not I should write about this. Only a handful of people have heard most of the details and even fewer have heard my darkest thoughts about it. Let's start from the beginning. They were watching me. My purse was ...
Rise.Run.Mom.Repeat.: Madison Mini Weekend
http://riserunmomrepeat.blogspot.com/2014/09/madison-mini-weekend.html
One early morning mother runner's thoughts about running, parenting and life in general. Wednesday, September 3, 2014. Well, hello, blog. It's been a while. And yes, it's been over 2 weeks since the Madison Mini. Enough with the excuses. Let's get to Madison! I know I've mentioned before. I'm so incredibly lucky to have that type of friendship in my life. Back to our weekend. On Thursday morning, we drove the half marathon course. It scared me to death. I knew it would be hilly, and I'd trained for h...

One early morning mother runner's thoughts about running, parenting and life in general. Wednesday, December 10, 2014. St Jude Marathon Weekend Recap. The St. Jude Marathon Weekend was a lot of things. Amazing. Inspiring. Exhausting. Painful. Incredible. All of these things wrapped up in one weekend package. I've been preparing for this marathon all year. This was the main event of my racing year. Photo credit: Jonna Stumpo. It was so nice to see a familiar face in the crowd. I'll tell you about the man ...
Rise.Run.Mom.Repeat.: Heartbreak
http://riserunmomrepeat.blogspot.com/2013/03/heartbreak.html
One early morning mother runner's thoughts about running, parenting and life in general. Thursday, March 21, 2013. I have a race in 2 weeks. It's my first half marathon of the year. I had big plans for this race. I worked hard, I got up at a ridiculous time of day to get my runs in. I was ready. On Sunday afternoon, I was exercising. Nothing unusual.until I heard a pop and found myself on the floor. Next came pain in my calf that took my breath away. Oh crap. Something is very wrong. I was pissed. I'...

One early morning mother runner's thoughts about running, parenting and life in general. Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Skirt Sports 13er: A Giveaway! I dislike the name "half marathon". When I was training for my first (and second), it didn't feel. Like half of anything. It was a whole 13 (point one) freaking miles. I worked hard for it. There was nothin' half. Skirt Sports feels the same way.is it any wonder why I love this company so much? We really get along. And guess what.I get to give an entry away!
Rise.Run.Mom.Repeat.: Catching Up
http://riserunmomrepeat.blogspot.com/2015/06/catching-up.html
One early morning mother runner's thoughts about running, parenting and life in general. Monday, June 15, 2015. This was in my fortune cookie a few weeks ago. Today is my ninth day of not running. During the training for every big race, I promise my legs that if they get me to the finish line, I'll give them time off. For the past nine days, I've been biking and walking and taking my kids to the water park but I have not been running. My hiatus is coming to an end and tomorrow, on day 10, I will run.
Rise.Run.Mom.Repeat.: BFFs and 13.1
http://riserunmomrepeat.blogspot.com/2014/03/bffs-and-131.html
One early morning mother runner's thoughts about running, parenting and life in general. Monday, March 10, 2014. BFFs and 13.1. A few months ago, my BFF (best friend forever - title from elementary school), Carrie, started talking about possibly wanting to run her very first half marathon this year. Of course, I took this idea and ran with it. Last week, she said to me, "If you can come to Madison for the half marathon in August, I'll register right now.". Summer '01 (alcohol may have been involved here).
Rise.Run.Mom.Repeat.: Another Dam 50K
http://riserunmomrepeat.blogspot.com/2015/06/another-dam-50k.html
One early morning mother runner's thoughts about running, parenting and life in general. Monday, June 8, 2015. Sothis happened over the weekend. Oh, you didn't know I was planning to run a 50K? Not many others did, either. After the Green Jewel disaster. I decided to keep this one to myself. Many of my good friends didn't even know about it until a few weeks before the event. I'm sure they speculated that something was up, but they let me have my secret until I was ready to share. Photo taken by Angela.
