December 25, 2008. This morning, Santa arrived with a West Texas accent and driving a red Chevy pickup. His visit was short, but he didn't come empty handed. Today's newspaper, bearing the headline "Merry Christmas" and breakfast in the form of Hostess cinnamon rolls – the best that Circle K had to offer – were his gifts. As he left, he spoke of hope. Back in my quiet house, I turned on the television. The first words from the dark screen were "Hope is genuinely real.". Trust the Day. Trust the Gift.

August 23, 2009. We came out the other end and the light was glorious. Life has been coming at me pretty fast lately. In the last week, I've taken my oldest to college and my youngest entered High School. I tried very hard to prepare my daughters (and myself! Driving from Lubbock, as you approach I-20, there are two choices: Abilene or El Paso. My daughters were born in El Paso and since my oldest chose a college in Abilene, the signs really show where she's been and where she is going. Links to this post.

March 31, 2009. My April Fool’s Baby. 14 years ago, I learned that Love is not finite. My first Birthday Week concluded with the birth of my second daughter. And what a week it was. It started with my oldest's 4. Birthday Party at Chuck E. Cheese, a 41 week Doctor visit the next day and then a call from the Doctor telling me that it was time to check in to the hospital. We were about to have our second baby and it looked like they would both be born in March! My April Fool's Baby. Links to this post.

June 30, 2009. Today is a strange travel day. 5 flights, 2 airlines and a 3 hour layover in Vegas. alot of people play the slots while they are waiting. Thursday, December 10, 2009. Watching It’s a Wonderful Life for the 1st time. Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he? It's a Wonderful Life. The movie, It's a Wonderful Life, has become almost a clichéd fixture in pop culture. Most adults understand the references, whether they've seen the movie or not, we understand the parallels to Dickens Christmas Carol and immediately recognize the remakes in TV sitcoms.

I don't get candy every year - which makes me very sad, but probably helps me stay thin because this candy is never shared. I just don't think anyone else would appreciate them the way I do! Thank you Cris for keeping the tradition alive. You know what would be really cool next year? I wrote about the ornament tradition (Since 1986! In my Christmas Ornaments.

December 9, 2009. Today would have been my Grandmother's 91. Birthday. She passed in May, joining my Grandfather and Mother. When we were little and Grandmommy baked bread, she would give us dough to knead and make into our own loaves in little tiny bread pans. Our final product would be very chewy – over kneaded, loaves and rolls made and remade – but I would be so proud! When we were little, Grandmommy sang a song – I am not sure where it came from -. She can open and shut them and she smiles at me too.
