Marine Strategy Framework Directive. The MSFD is the environmental pillar of Europe's maritime policy designed to create a framework for sustainable use of Europe's marine waters. The European Union Marine Strategy Framework Directive provides a legislative framework to sustainably manage human activities at all scales - from local to national to regional seas.
