Wednesday, September 29, 2010. Essential Question # 3. Females were usually viewed as insignificant in prehistoric society. In Beowulf, we rarely see any appearance of a woman at all. When Wealhtheow, queen of Heorot, wife of Hrothgar, makes an entrance into the story, it raises question of the significant of this female character. Why is she more special than other women in Heorot aside from her social status? What will this presence bring to Beowulf? That is to be revealed later in the story.
