Web Things, by Mark Baker. I’ve had a couple of conversations recently – one online. 8211; user agents. The name drives home the point that they do. Bidding alone. When a user initiates an action which requires messages to be sent, then the message needs to reflect the intent of the user. For example (the subject of the aforementioned online discussion) when a user clicks a link in a browser it is with the intent of dereferencing that link, an action which is by definition. This last Monday - May 11, 2015 - was my last day as an IBMer. I had a great run at IBM. Worked on a lot of great, diverse projects with great people. But I'm ready for a change. I've been planning on retiring this year, for a while now, but it kinda snuck up on me. Mid-life crisis? Maybe Anyway, it's time! First, a breather.

As a software developer, I care deeply about my build tools. I strive to provide easy-to-use and understand build scripts with my projects, so that other folks can rebuild a project I'm working on, as simply as possible. Often one of those other folks is me, coming back to a project after being away for it for months, or years. I cut my teeth on.

We’re hearing that lousy times are good times for creativity, for building new things, precisely because the mainstream things aren’t working. Well, and maybe you’re out of a job too. If you’re building something new, who should you build it for? This is part of the Tough Times. Build It For Yourself! Xb7; This is a point I’ve made before in this blog, but recently, Steve Yegge made it again. Brilliantly I thought, plus he’s funny. On the other hand he’s. How BigCos Do It. Who Do You Really Know? Pmuellr is Patrick Mueller, Senior Node Engineer at NodeSource. Other pmuellr thangs: home page. Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Resuscitating a 2006 MacBook. One bad assumption I made about leaving IBM is that I'd be able to get a new MacBook Pro quickly. Nope. 2-3 weeks. NO LAPTOP! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO TAKE TIME OFF AND RELAX? Poking through my shelves of computer junk, I spied my two old MacBooks. I forgot I had two of them. Hmmm, is that MacBook still usable? Luckily I still had an OS X 10.6 DVD lying a...

Pmuellr is Patrick Mueller, Senior Node Engineer at NodeSource. Other pmuellr thangs: home page. Thursday, January 01, 2015. Ragents against the machine. A few years back, I developed a tool called we. Mote - aka weinre. Mobile-specific code in weinre. Btw, I currently run a publicly accessible weinre server at Bluemix. So the trick to make this work with weinre, is to have both the client and target connect as HTTP clients to an HTTP server that shuttles messages between the two. That HTTP server. And t...
