AmandaSoup: Brighton Curried Carrots
http://amandasoup.blogspot.com/2011/04/brighton-curried-carrots.html
Food and life all mixed up. After almost two years of pining and whining, we moved back to Melbourne just over a month ago. After more than a month here, we feel bonded to the children, the dog, the gardens. We know the sounds of this place.tires on gravel approach, kick of a ball, whoop of trampoline delight. I relish a moment's chat in the kitchen with my friend, swaddled in her sweater with a mug of tea. A kindred spirit in more ways than I knew before. 6 large carrots , or thereabouts, sliced.

About 1.5 cups of chopped English cucumber. 1/4 cup olive oil. The juice of one lime. 1 tsp sea salt. I make really good soup.

Its a happy heart, happy belly memory. 7-8 apples (2 grated, others chopped up.I use Fuji apples). 1 rounded teaspoon clove powder. 1 rounded tablespoon of brown sugar. 12-14 prunes, halved. 75 grams butter (2/3 cup).

Food and life all mixed up. East Melbourne Baked Dinner. Its possible that my culinary successes this week are largely due to the recent purchase of a Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends DVD. AmandaSoup: Pumpkin Pasties
http://amandasoup.blogspot.com/2010/05/pumpkin-pasties.html
Food and life all mixed up. Jason and I were missing eating pies in Australia today. As we drove along in the car, we reminisced about the different types of pies we like. One of our favorites is a pumpkin and walnut pie made by Humble Pies back in Byron Bay. So, tonight I tried my hand at recreating them. They weren't perfect, and I didn't have any walnuts on hand, but they were pretty darn yummy! Here are the ingredients I used:. One butternut pumpkin (squash), chopped up, steamed and pureed.

AmandaSoup: 4 Pot Kidchadi, Just Because I Can!!!!
http://amandasoup.blogspot.com/2008/08/4-pot-kidchadi-just-because-i-can.html
Food and life all mixed up. 4 Pot Kidchadi, Just Because I Can! I made up this recipe not long after we moved to the apartment on Neill Street. We had graduated from the one burner at Lygon Street to a 4 burner gas Smeg unit which gave me great joy. Kichadi is traditionally a one-pot meal and this was my gleeful joke. It actually is somewhat similar to a risotto and is nice served with parmesan. 1 cup yellow split peas. 1 cup basmati rice. Half a yellow onion. 1 tsp cumin seeds. 1 tsp mustard seed.

Jason and I decided to roll with it. 1 cup dry yellow split peas. 3 slices of fresh ginger root, plus one nub of ginger chopped finely. 1 rounded tsp brown mustard seeds. 2 carrots, diced. 3-4 leaves of silverbeet (swiss chard), stems removed, chopped finely. Sea salt to taste. As I said above, its lovely served with hot buttered toast. It would also be great over brown rice or another whole grain. I make really good soup.
