Interested in taking part? We are looking for people. Aged between 18-45 years and. Have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and received their first insulin injection less than 4 years ago. You can not take part if you fit any of the following:. Pregnant, breast feeding or planning a pregnancy. Not using adequate contraception (both males and females). Use of immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory therapies for 1 month prior to participation.

We have been involved in two previous human trials of peptide immunotherapy in type 1 diabetes. We are currently awaiting the full results of a further study, the MonoPepT1De trial, which was investigating the treatment on people with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes.

Generally, at the time someone is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, not all of a person’s beta cells have been destroyed – between 15-40% remain healthy and can still make insulin. Importantly, even small amounts of naturally produced insulin can improve blood sugar control, make daily management of diabetes easier, and reduce the risk of long-term complications.
