100 things | A British mum – always driving my American kids……
https://muminamerc.wordpress.com/about
A British mum – always driving my American kids……. Trying to stay sane whilst raising the kids…. Books I am reading. I never knew I was adopted until I was 11 – when a family member said something ‘by mistake.’. I can speak 3 languages pretty fluently and another ‘pigeon’…. I am not the best cook but I am completely self taught. I have only been ‘put under’ twice in my life – as a 7 year old for eye surgery and as a 44 year old to have my gall bladder out. I have dyed my hair since the age of 18. I would...

A British mum – always driving my American kids……. Trying to stay sane whilst raising the kids…. Books I am reading. December 19, 2016. I am home again after an unexpected week in England. I traipsed many hours back and forwards to the hospital to make the obligatory visits and met so many wonderful, amazing people on the way (and of course – a few nutters – it is me after all). Here are a few things I feel I learned. You can eat too many sausage rolls. Traveling 1000s of miles using planes, trains and a...

Random ramblings on the joys and woes of parenting. Monthly Archives: May 2013. Cracking the fear of mess…with very clean shaving foam! May 18, 2013. I’ve mentioned before about how it seems that boys, certainly mine, are often more reticent about getting messy than their girl counterparts. I haven’t had time to research whether this is anything more than anecdotal, but in any case, my little lad just couldn’t resist the temptation (and clean smell! Of shaving foam … eventually! 8230;and then his knee!

Random ramblings on the joys and woes of parenting. July 18, 2013. We’ve been loving the hot weather- the boys don’t seem too bothered by it and I’m in my element! It has also meant that much of our play has been outside and it has been messy! This is a picture from today, the swamp’s second outing, as I couldn’t get a pic of the first one before little hands got busy! The dry land was made of a mix of oats, lentils and some stray green rice and the swamp was made with Gelli Baff. This did the trick as a...

Random ramblings on the joys and woes of parenting. Sound and water play. June 14, 2013. This is something we did a while ago but I am linking up with Jennie for ‘Messy Play for Matilda Mae’ and her theme this week is water play. And yes, it got messy (well, my house was a bit soggy! I then extended his play by encouraging him to listen to the sounds that the objects made when struck with various implements. So we hit the colander with the balloon whisk and tried the metal plate with a wooden spoon&#...

Random ramblings on the joys and woes of parenting. June 19, 2013. A couple of weeks ago, we had a family holiday in Brittany where OH parents have a house. It’s on the top of a hill with super views and even lovelier gardens, all lovingly created and tended over the years. There’s lots of outside space including veggie patches, mature trees, lawned areas and an orchard. Such space needs a lot of mowing and for that, Granny has a tractor! This was little boy heaven! Then there was the land drain! What an...

Random ramblings on the joys and woes of parenting. Monthly Archives: April 2013. April 27, 2013. I’d coloured some yellow and some green and Toby enjoyed trying to mix them up (not easy! He chose to tip some out into the tuff spot and then really enjoyed putting his foot on it. I say ‘on’ it as the stuff is so wierd, it turns solid with the application of pressure. For some reason, getting feet dirty is not as bad as hands and he enjoyed then making footprints…. Lots of messy fun! Filed under Messy Play.

Random ramblings on the joys and woes of parenting. To name but a few…. July 2, 2013. There are no great stories to accompany how we chose our children’s names, well, apart from the fact that they were both called Harry, at least for a few hours! Dan’s first choice had been Toby, which I also liked but in a different sort of way – perhaps it was a little more enigmatic, I’m not sure. He just didn’t look like a Harry! We do, however, have a new baby card congratulating us on the birth of Harry! You are co...

Random ramblings on the joys and woes of parenting. 9 Months in, 9 months out. June 21, 2013. Harry is 9 months old today. And I don’t know how I feel about that. I feel so proud of him: how good natured he is; how he smiles at everyone (well, most people); how he’s desperate to be on his feet and for so many more things. These are times to treasure and guard in my heart as they pass by in a flash. In three months, he will be one. And there’ll be no stopping him! Go Harry and thank you xx. Art for Kids, ...

A British mum – always driving my American kids……. Trying to stay sane whilst raising the kids…. Books I am reading. January 5, 2017. I recently finished reading a book which referred to different generations and parents, in retrospect regretting that they had not done things differently with their own kids – be it lack of patience/time/energy which prevented this happening as their kids were younger. Lets take a simple sinusoidal signal given by x(t)=sin(2πt). We need to compute a x(t) for different values of t, to plot a temporal signal. Define time period ,t. Assume t={0,0.01,0.02,0.03,…0.99,1}. Now compute x(t) for each t. The simple MATLAB code is . T=0:001:1; % t=start value: intervals: end value.
